Help Transfer Files to/from USB

Hi all...and thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

I have just purchased a Galaxy Note 8 as my travel computer. However, I don't seem to be able to transfer files (media, pdf, doc, xls) between a USB device (storage or card reader) and the Galaxy.

All works find for media files to/from Galaxy and my PC (Mac), or using wireless, but as I travel to places where there is no Wifi (and often no electricity), and I don't want to take a PC, I need the USB connectivity. (I was going to upgrade my old iPad -or buy yet another netbook, however the Galaxy seemed to be a better option due to its advertised USB connectivity and weight).

You need an OTG addaptor or a Meeno micro SD card reader.
