Transfer Gingerbread app data to Jelly Bean

d4005

Newbie
I've got a bunch of games on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" (original 2010 model) that's running Gingerbread 2.3.3 and I find that the progress data is stored in a folder /Android/data/data. So I copied these files to my computer so I could restore them to my new JellyBean based Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

The problem is, I don't find the same folder structure on my Note 2. Instead of one file per app, it's one folder per app. Inside these folders, rather than finding one single ".asec" file, I find multiple files. As I recall, I saw a Progress.dat and some xml files.

Is there a standard way of migrating 2.3.3 data to 4.1 ? Rename .asec to Progress.dat ? Just give up ?

For older devices, you need to root then use a Backup app like Titanium or MyBackupPro. If you are lucky the games you play save to the cloud. Several do this, like the games from Com2Us, GameVil, etc. If you are saved to cloud, all you need to do is log in on the game on your new device. Newer versions of Android also automatically backup to cloud the data for apps if I recall correctly.

Thanks for the reply. A few problems with this advice though. I don't want to root my Note 2. I rooted my Nexus One and put CyanogenMod6 (and later 7) onto it and the whole time I wished I hadn't bothered. Not only does it opt you out of auto updates, it makes restoring it to factory a lot more difficult. Another reason why I wouldn't want to root is that I'm already on the very latest version of Android on my Note 2.

So I guess Titanium doesn't work without rooting? Is there nothing that works without rooting? Does backup and restore via Titanium automatically "handle" the conversion from one progress data type to the newer type? I'd be surprised if that were true.

Uh, you can just root it, restore the backups then unroot it. You don't have to change the ROMs when you root. You can just root and leave it at that, then unroot it when you have to update then root it again. And AFAIK yes Titanium handles the transfer without issue.
