Help Transfer home screen shortcuts to a file

Is it possible to save home screen shortcuts and folders with shortcuts in it to a file on the device and then
transfer the contents of this file back to the home screen anytime?

Depends on what homescreen launcher you are using. Nova Launcher and Apex Launcher has a backup homescreen feature. Usually stock launchers (what came with the phone) don't have this.

A less automated way is to just take a screenshot of your home screen. You still need to manually re-do things if something should happen but if you've made a lot of adjustments at least a visual capture will be a guide.
