Transfering apps.....

NumptyNed

Lurker
I had an xperia play but got fed up with it and bought an xperia arc s yesterday.

I thought that because most of the apps were saved on the sd card, all i would have to do is put the sd card in my new phone and i could use the same apps.

But when i do this, it stil shows on my new phone that the sd card has stuff on it, but i cannot access any of the apps?

is there anyway around this, or do i have to use something like appbrain to transfer my apps?

any help is appreciated :D

Just go to Google Play and install all your apps. Apps are not installed to the external SD, but to the internal memory. If you "move to sd card", you're moving them to the internal memory area called the sd card, but which is really just part of the phone's flash memory.

Well, that depends on the configuration of a given handset. Some, like my Galaxy Nexus, do just what you described. Others, like the phone that the OP just acquired, actually do take a micro SD card that the OS can offload files to.

Most handsets will take a microSD card. There may be some that actually move apps to that card, but I haven't seen one that does. In any case, just going to Google Play will reinstall all the apps he has purchased on the new phone.

It's not the apps proper that are moved in their entirety, so much as parts of them, or additional files for things such as games. Also, we can't run widgets from the SD card either, as the OS doesn't support that.
