transfering PDS and other docs from Mac

I want to transfer files (eg. PDF and .docs) from mac to Android.

Im using OS X and Android File Transfer. What folder in Android File Transfer do i drop pdf files and Word docs in to be read on my Nexus 4?

I have Quick Office installed on Android 4.4.4, but cant find where to drag and drop on on Mac.

Until now i have been sending as email and downloading (where files are then available in Quick Office) surely there is an easier way?

i dont see a folder named "Main Storage/Documents"in Android File Transfer. Am i supposed to create that folder?

Thanks for your responses. I cannot locate a folder named "documents" in Android File Transfer. I dont believe Ive ever seen such a folder there. Do I just create it?

what im seeing is a list of files:

.adc
.mmsyscache
.wistone
.ww2
Android
bluetooth
DCIM
Download
media
movies
Music
Notifications
Photoedtor
Pictures

Good, you're in the right place :-)

You can create a "Documents" folder if you want, but it's probably simpler to put them in "Download" which is where they end up the way you're doing it now. That way they're instantly available in Quick Office without having to hunt them down.

Thanks , but there's the next problem. I have already dropped a PDF in Downloads in AFT and i cannot locate in Quick Office. Ive tried "open" "recent files", its not visible.

Also ive created a new folder called Documents in AFT, and dropped the same file there. Where should I be able to view that file in Android?

Ok. In my Quick Office the "Downloads" location is permanently available just by tapping the "Open File" icon. It shows a page containing links to "Recent", "Google Drive" and "Downloads". If you don't see these standard folders all is not lost...

You can get to any location if you enable "Display advanced devices" from the "Settings" option on the menu on the "Open files" page. You then see an "Internal storage" icon in addition that allows you to browse to anywhere on the device, including of course the "Download" folder or any other you may have created.

You'd view the file in /sdcard/Documents.

I've just run a quick test on mine and both WPS Office (formerly Kingsoft Office) and Polaris Office found a Word document I stuck in my Download folder.

But a document doesn't have to be in a particular folder to open it. Just use a file browser to select the document and click on it (equivalent to using the Finder to find and open a file). Many office apps have a file browser built in anyway, though I don't have a copy of QuickOffice currently installed to test.

(Confession: I organise my filesystems according to purpose of the files rather than their type, so I don't use generic "Documents" folders anyway).

Hadron -im gonna sound like a real douche now but where do i find /sdcard ?

i dont think i have a file browser on android - can you recommend one?

The location called "Internal storage" in Quick Office is in fact the same as the absolute location "/sdcard". It's the same place that contains the folders you listed earlier.

It can get confusing, I wouldn't worry about it unless you have a real reason to dig into all the gory details of the Android file system ;-)

There are a lot of file browsers in the Play Store. Slightly surprised if the N4 doesn't have one - seems quite an oversight to me.

Personally I use Root Explorer, but that one is designed with rooted users in mind. A popular free one is ES File Explorer.

I also recommend ES File Explorer. I tend to use it to much like you would use the Finder on a Mac or Explorer on Windows. It's very full-featured and well supported.

Nexus devices don't have file managers installed by default. I'm addicted to File Explorer. Nexus devices do have a default Documents folder.
