Help Transfering stuff to new phone

Transferring your contacts will be based how you set up the Contacts app on your old phone.
- If you had set it up so the everything was stored on that phone than you should be able to go into the menu of the Contacts app, export your all your contacts, copy that exported file over to your new phone, and then import the file into the Contacts app of your new phone.
- If you had set it so your contacts were synced between your email service and your phone than you shouldn't have to do much as once you set up your email service on your new phone your contacts should just transfer over. This kind of depends on what email service you use. With Gmail for instance, it's pretty seamless as your contacts are 'tied' to your Google account. (But in any case it's usually better to use your email service as the central point of retaining your contacts. Not only does it make it easier to transfer from one phone to another but most importantly it's a matter of always have an automatic backup of your contacts.)

Regarding transferring those memos, what memo app were you using?

Svim,
I may not be sure how to sync my contacts and info from my memo app with my google email on my old phone. Could you explain to me how to do that and transfer my contacts and what's on my memo app to my new phone? And the memo app is just called Memo.

Open up the Contacts app on your old phone and just scan through the list of your contacts. Now using a web browser (this will be easier on a computer or laptop) log into your Google account Contacts by going to:
https://contacts.google.com
Scan the list of contacts and if it's a match to what you saw on your old phone's Contacts app that's a pretty good sign your phone and your online account were syncing properly. Also check on your old phone in its Settings >> Accounts. Click on 'Google' and then click on your gmail address name. A listing of all the Google services in your Google online account should show up, hopefully most will have green checkmarks including the 'Sync Contacts' box. You could also do a test by just creating a temporary, non-valid contact using either your old phone's Contact app or the web browser online account and that temp contact should pop up in the other. You should be OK as once you set up your new phone and enter your Google account info to activate it, things like your gmail, calendar, and contacts will just transfer over.

In the event your old phone wasn't set up to sync with your online Google account, you need to manually transfer your contacts over from your old phone to the new one. (And you should enable the online syncing as it makes it easier to transfer but more importantly it's an online backup of your contact info.) Start up the Contacts app on your old phone, tap on the menu button, and the should be a 'Import/Export contacts' option. In this case you want to export a file, probably named 'Contacts.vcf'. Once that's done, locate that Contacts.vcf file, and copy it over to your new phone. On your new phone, start up your Contacts app, click on its menu button, select 'Import/Export contacts' and now you want to import that Contacts.vcf file. You might have to sort through things if there are duplicates and such but check that your new phone is syncing with your online Google account.

I'm not familiar with a 'Memo app' and while there are lots of memo type apps on Google Play I don't see one specifically named just 'Memo'. I'm guessing it's a carrier-branded app that's only available for that product line. Anyway, I don't have a clue as to how to transfer saved Memo info. What model is your old phone and what version of Android is it running? Also, is your new phone made by the same company and does it also have this Memo app on it?

Svim, I checked contacts.google.com and there are no contacts there. My phone also says that my contacts and Memo are synced. So why aren't there any contacts in on my google account?

If none of the contacts on your phone are showing up in your online Google account, when you originally set up your old phone did you activate it using this same Google account? Try checking if your old phone is linked to your account by going to your Google account's Dashboard, and look at the Android section and your old phone should be listed in Devices.

Actually, at this point whether it is or isn't, a really important thing to do is start up the Contacts app on your old phone, export your contacts to file, and get that file copied over to your computer. Either transfer it using a microSD card; or through Dropbox, or Google Drive, or OneDrive, or whatever. Just get that Contacts.vcf file copied to a safe place. On your computer, go back to https://contacts.google.com , in in the left side panel click on the 'More' option and in the resulting contextual menu select 'Import' to import that saved Contacts.vcf file. Once it finishes you might want to clean up/edit some of your contact entries.
Now make sure your new phone is linked to your Google account and that Contacts are synced between your phone and your Google account. Depending on how many contacts you have this may take a few minutes but when it's done confirm the contacts on your phone's Contact app correspond to your online Gmail Contacts. Do a test by creating a temporary test contact entry in one or the other to confirm your contacts are syncing properly.

Thanks for all your help svim! I kind of tried to find out how to export my contacts but couldn't find a way. How do I do that? And how do I transfer them to onedrive?

This is what I'd do on my Galaxy S3 running KitKat to export my contacts so you'll have to adjust things accordingly as whatever phone you have have a slightly different menu set - Open up your Contacts app and tap on the lower left button to access its menu. Select the 'Export to SD card' option. Tap the 'OK' button when a confirmation window pops up. After a several seconds use a file manager to confirm your newly exported Contacts_00x.vcf file is where that confirmation message stated it should be.

To copy that Contacts file to your online OneDrive, if you don't already have the OneDrive app installed and set up on both your old and new phones it's going to be a multi-step process. These sites might be more helpful to explain what you need to do:
