Transferring Office Docs To G S2

Hi,

I'm a newbie to Android, eek! I've got a multitude of memos I want to transfer from my laptop to my Galaxy S2. The laptop has Vista on it and the memos are in Microsoft Office format. I open Kies and click to transfer a folder or a file from my laptop to my phone but I get the message that the format is not supported on the phone. Is this true, as I'm gonna be stumped if I can't have these memos on the go. Any ideas of how I can transfer these Office files to my phone? Convert them into another format first? Omigod, how tiring!

Thanks,

Greggles.

You might install an office app like DocumentsToGo on your phone and then try again.

What kind of Microsoft Office format? There are several you know: doc, docx, epub, ppt, csv, xcs, xml, etc. Anyway, the OS does not support these files natively. You have to use an app. Your GS2 comes with Polaris Office freely installed so yes your device can read them. However you should not use Kies to transfer them. Kies is just a media manager program and it detects your files as incompatible media formats. This is not like an iPhone where you have to go through a program to transfer files. In fact you can just use your phone without ever using Kies ever except for installing updates. On your PC, just open MyComputer. You will see your phone there among "devices". Just double click it and you will see "phone" and "sd card"(or whatever your external microsd is named). From there you can just treat the phone storage just like any other flash drive. create a folder and dump your notes there just like that. You can open them on your phone using the MyFiles app or using the Polaris Office's inbuilt File Explorer.
