Help Transformer Power On Issues

jexit

Lurker
I've seen numerous posts about this issue so it seems to be something fairly common but I've tried all the solutions I can find. Here's my problem...

I've had the transformer for almost a year and during that time it seems to have constantly had this issue. It will not power on when I push the button. Sometimes if I push the button an extreme number of time it will eventually power on but never on the first try. If I can't get it to power on then I'll plug it into power and that will force it to turn on. Additionally it does shutdown on occasion on it's own.

I've attempted the following:

  • Factory reset - no dice
  • Holding down the Volume Down and Power button for hard reset - this does work to turn it on but I have no desire to do that every single time I want to power on the unit.
  • I've contacted tech support and they were less than helpful. When they requested I fill out a survey for additional support the survey wouldn't submit and the website gave an error.
  • I've tried turning off the lock screen but I think this suggestion more applied to users that couldn't wake it up not couldn't turn it on.

Nothing has fixed it and I'm looking for any additional suggestions because I feel I've done everything aside from storm Asus or root it and while I'm content with the operating system as is...I'd root it if I thought it would fix the problem. I'm just worried about the possibility that it doesn't. Any additional solutions to try? I'm traveling but when I get back I plan to talk to Asus until they give me a better suggestion than to call back or factory reset.

Might just be a bad button if still under warenty I would send it back ASAP. Call them for a RMA they are very slow with email.

Did you call them? I had a simiar issue with my power button. Within about 10 minutes of being on the phone, I had a RMA. 12 days later my tablet was back and working better than it ever had. I actually think my button was touchy from the start but until the random reboots were happening I just lived with it.

Anyway I always call when having an issue with hardware no matter what brand as it seems to get the best results.

I'm traveling right now but as soon as I get back I suppose I'll just have to give them a call. I was hoping to find out if there were any more suggestions and/or info on what was causing this among so many users.

I have the same problem and I heard all the horror stories about sending stuff back and not getting yours back at all and getting a different slate or having to wait for over a month. So I took the easy way out and just put up with not having a power button. Then with the ICS update and all the crap that happened with that I found a work around which is the app that never lets your tab go into sleep mode. I think its called wake lock. Do a search on this forum and you will find plenty of info about it. I pair that with another app that shuts my screen off on demand and have been able to survive without a power button for a while now. I bring the tablet back to life using the volume buttons. The only downside is that the wake lock app is a bit tough on the battery.
Might be a temporary fix until you get your tab sent off and fixed. If you do I would be interested to know how that process goes.

If you are in the US I've had my dock in twice and it's fairly painless. Both times it took about 12 days from the time I shiped it until I got it back.
In the US you do have to pay to ship it to them but no cost for the return.
If you're brave and the warrenty is up you could try opening it up an fixing it yourself. I have seen that sometimes it's just an alignment problem between the button and the switch.
