Transit's L70 review

Well, today I picked up the L70 basically on impulse. I upgraded from the LG Motion, which I had rooted, debloated and running CM 10. I was a little hesitant at first, because I heard of all the issues with memory and KitKat.

I paid $59.99 ($10 activation), and I picked up a case in downtown for $5 (I think Metro charges way too much for the cases they sell tbh).

I'll go through several things and compare it to the Motion (which many people upgraded from).

Screen: This is the first phone I've had that has a larger than 3.5 inch screen (I've had the Samsung Admire previously and the iPhones 3GS/4). I think it is way clearer and crisp than the Motion's. It does get washed out in sunlight just like the Motion but I'm used to that. The resolution is way better than the Motion's. Whenever I go on instagram, all the pictures look clear, compared to the Motion, where all the pictures are blurry.

Memory: Us Motion users were blessed with a nice amount of internal memory on the Motion (about 5GB including bloatware, close to 6GB without.). With the Motion, I was a LOT more careless with memory, saving everything to phone instead of SD (even after I rooted). I never had less than 1GB available. With the L70, you do have to be a bit memory conscious. I've downloaded about 20 apps already and 13 of them allowed to move to SD, so I haven't had the issue everyone else has had. (I still have about 1.1GB left).

Responsiveness: The screen of the L70 feels better and smoother than the Motion's, there is also a lot less lag when scrolling between screens. On the Motion, I've had several apps freeze and Force close, even sometimes the launcher wouldn't respond, or it wouldn't respond when I unlock the phone.

Battery: Here's the biggie. The Motion had wonderful battery life in the beginning, and I got about 24 hours of use from it. Before I got CM, that 24 became 5. After CM, I ended up getting 9 without much activity. The phone drained quickly from listening to music or doing anything at all. In the last week of me having the Motion, I averaged 6 hours before being drained. With the L70, I was given the phone about 12 hours ago at 51% and now I'm at 13% and I've been on wifi installing apps and such (I used 4g a bit from 12-7 because I was out). The L70 has a bigger battery but also a brighter screen (I used rootdim on the Motion and underclocked it) so I thought it'd be similar to the Motion. I'm pleased for now.

Misc: After putting CM on the Motion, the camera turned sour, idk what happened (Its been a year since I've done that), so I find the L70's camera way better than what I was dealing with. I find KitKat harder to adjust to than ICS/JB but I find it way smoother in speed and nicer looking overall. Even though the L70 is 4g (not LTE), I actually get faster speeds on the L70 than the Motion. On the Motion, I averaged 5mbps, with the L70 today I averaged 11mbps. (NYC has better T-Mo connection? probably.). The L70 utilizes my home wifi better too. I averaged 72mpbs on the Motion, but average about 79 with the L70. I hate the LG Optimus UI with a passion and installed Nova Launcher immediately to get rid of it. I mean I was totally expecting it, but it would've been better without it. The buttons on the bottom don't light up, which I find odd. And the phone feels really good. It doesn't feel like a tiny brick like the Motion, it actually is bigger than my hand and feels light, which is a plus. I suggest getting a case though.

This is my first review, what do you guys think?

I think this was a great review and agree with you (Although I upgraded from the One Touch Evolve) I'm glad to see LG somewhat step up their game. Bigger battery, Bigger screen, More responsive and lightweight for the cost of video quality and memory? To me that's a great deal!
