Transparent notification bar on 4.1.2 possible?

I have a ZTE radiant running 4.1.2, Just wondering if it is possible to change the notification bar to make it transparent, My mom has a verizon phone running the same version and hers is transparent so there must be a way?
 
I think your firmware/rom has to support it so you probably need a custom rom.
Nova Launcher (app) has the option but only for supported phones :thumbup:
