Trapped 2,300ft underground for 5months!!

Difficult to imagine how these guys are going to do over the next few months.

Trying to imagine what I'd want sent down the 6" tube (not including water/food) to help me through the time in the darkness.

Can you imagine what a few weeks of 33guys' waste, even on a reduced ration, is going to be like in a confined space! and what it'll be like (physically and mentally) if one of these guys dies before rescue?!:(
 
Thats gotta suck, two months is a long time. Cant imagine whats its like when you realize one of your best friends never made it, and you where down there with him. A six inch tube is the size of my houses gutters, I get a hard time getting them unclogged, so I cant imagine the hard time they are having trying to get things down there.:(

Hope they all make it.
 
I've seen this on the news a few times. The press are hailing them as 'heroes'. Don't really understand why.
 
What I have to wonder is where is the latrine, and what is it going to be like in 4-5 months. :eek:

They better be sending an internet connection and some smartphones through that 6" hole, so that these guys have something to do for the next few months.

They survived a collapse and then had to navigate down 7 miles of mines in little/no light to find a shelter.. I'd say that's pretty harrowing.

4months with nothing to do but argue about the existence of God on the internet... I predict 1miner surviving full term!!

OMG, what if there's a mix of iPhone and Android users down there, and they're asked to choose what handset they want sent down!!!

At least the Android user will be looking at porn. :D
 
Broadband connection, power source, wifi router, wifi devices for connecting to the internet.... and maybe webcam for skype chat with loved ones.
 
Wow. It sucks to be them. I do agree that having internet would be among the most important things to me if I were in that situation.
 
Where are you getting 5 months from... the article says since August 5th.

The miners have been trapped since 5 August, when the main access tunnel collapsed.

You're right, I should've only put;

...but then there's the inaccuracy with the depth; I put 2,300ft, but the article has both 2,300ft AND 700m!? Now clearly they both can't be right, so I'll take an average of 2,298ft, because 2,300ft is obviously grossly misleading!!

So the title of this thread henceforth shall be:

Trapped 2,298ft underground for 4months 2weeks and 5days!

...and now you say it like that it's hardly even newsworthy! I mean 5months trapped at 2,300ft would be mind boggling, but consider it 9days less 2ft shallower, and it's a walk in the park!:rolleyes:
 
I think he's saying that if it takes them 4 months to rescue them...then they would have been in the mine for nearly 5 months...semantics

sooo, if by some crazy statistically impossible happenstance, you and i end up in the same situation and one of us can get out in 19 days and the other has to wait 5 years, im getting out first, k? :p
 
I read in the paper today, that apparently the miners have not yet been informed of how long it is going to take to get to them, because they do not want to break their spirits. Wow that's got to suck. Here they are probably thinking that rescue parties are on their way, while the rest of the world knows that they might not be out before the end of the year. That's got to be depressing.
