Root Tri-Band Virgin Mobile Galaxy S3 Data Done Right and Regular Tri-Band

A lot of great reviews for the data done right galaxy s5 from people who dont root their phones. They say phones has lots of features and the data done right plans dont beat your wallet especially if you have friends or family on your lines. Kinda like this galaxy s3 has everything i need in the stock package. Hell wifi hotspot subscription is usually $3 to $5 a day for a very small amount of data and on here i dont have to pay any of them additional fees to use the hotspot features which saves me $90 to $150 a month if i use the hotspot features everyday and go over the standard wifi hotspot data limit each day.

Rootmaster (Raimod) will install kinguser onto your phone and you wont be able to uninstall it. Its supposed to root the sprint version and regular l710's. And if you try to unroot with supersu it will disable your security system and when you try to update the binary it wont update. Apps will ask for su permissions but when you grant them root rights it wont actually grant anything and the root apps will say you dont have root same thing in a root checker app. It doesn't work on the tribands.

Sorry to pop in but, kinguser also sends your imei and other phone info to Chinese servers. You mentioned being worried about security a while back. Kinguser is infamous for shady practices. Absolutely horrible app.
Why anyone would give that even a look, especially when this phone roots so easily with Odin, is beyond me.
You can always unroot after you've been rooted. For root, of course, Just use Odin to flash twrp and, before you do anything, make a full unrooted backup in twrp. When you want to unroot just download the latest .tar for the triband. Then extract the stock recovery.img file from the .tar and put it on your SD card. Boot to twrp, restore your pure non rooted backup, also wipe data/factory reset and wipe internal storage. In the same recovery session use twrp to flash the stock recovery image. Reboot, profit.

I did some cracking and cracked root master i didnt like how it stuck it kinguser into my system and cant be removed so i broke the application and installed twrp via flashify and fixed the binary.

I saw a tutorial on how to get kinguser off of your system. Hard to remember where I saw it, but I'll grab you a link if you need it.
 
Is it supersu me apk i tried that and it wouldn't remove it and i tried a script with no success. Out of the box it gives broken root access and kinguser is not visible even though it says its installed and asking you to grant root to apps.
 
Its no biggie im using supersu to run kinguser. I thought since kinguser devs want to lock everyone out from switching to supersu i figured id make their app get run by the app their trying to block.
 
Yeah those were the options I saw. Either one (if executed properly) should have removed it. Unless they updated kinguser to be even more stubborn, lol. Terrible app, very invasive. I can't believe its still alive. Having my info uploaded to Chinese servers would be enough to make me smash this phone and change all of my passwords.
I can whip up a custom script to remove it, but the one I saw online appears to have it all in it.
 
All S3's support wireless charging. Although you normally have to buy both a receiver and a charger. You'll see the receiver on the back side of the battery cover if it already has it. It plugs into the 2 gold contacts to the left of the battery. If not they are around $10 or less on Amazon and eBay. I'm using a Nokia charging pad with mine. It's great I've been using it on mine for over 2 years now. It keeps your charging port in top notch shape for when you really need it. :)

I do not have the Samsung, but i do own a DDR version of the LG VOLT. I had a Beyond Talk LG VOLT, and rooted, custom ROM, when it broke, i wanted another LG VOLT. Beings $100 Cheaper at WalMart and not knowingD this DDR crap, i got screwed with a DDR version phone. Headache from DAY # 1!

I had to get a special plan, loosing my unlimited everything for $30 a month i was grand fathered into, To pay $15 more a month for the same thing. Well I flashed a custom ROM on it, Texts and Calls worked great. BUT it would NOT get any Data services. Data on DDR relies on Zact / ItsOn services when the others didnt. I have extracted the ItsOn services .apk from the stock DDR Firmware and were trying to install it on a custom ROM and received mixed results.

Samsung used Odin and .tar files for origional firmware, where my LG uses the LG Flash Tool and a .tot file to downgrade back to stock. The one thing I did find that works, if if you put a custom ROM on my LG "DDR" phone you CAN FlashTool the stock *NON DDR* "z3" firmware back onto it, and once you update the Profile and PRL and HFA (HAS TO BE through WIFI the Initial set-up) that the ItsOn.apk services and Zact will push OTA through the phone and you can get your "DDR" device back to normal.

I dont know coding or anything special, Just a basic Trial by Error Tinker'er, I have been ALL over the net looking for DDR compatible custom ROMs, or a way to make them work, and with the DDR /WalMart ONLY (BS) so unpopular i dont see anyone coming up with anything and DDR will eventually be a dieing fad.

That and you will start getting ERROR CODES when you try to place calls where you have to call in to DDR and they transfer you to Google's Authentication or whatever crap just to get it fixed. It left me without a phone for 2 Weeks fighting those MF'ers.


In my Personal opinion, everyone should STAY AWAY from "DDR" because its Data Done WRONG in the end.

Does anyone else have any experiences with this? Not many search's return Data Done Right results except for being from Virgin Mobile websites themselves...
 
Eventually you wont have to worry about it just being data done right cause sprint is moving its prepaid brands to virtual network components. Its on will eventually be baked into every prepaid sprint branded phone.

Im pretty sure I know how to root and flash custom recovey images and flash custom ROMs. I have done it numerous times each on atleast 25 different devices of all different makes and models. Ive put Android on Kindle's with ADB and a factory fastboot cable, used Odin on Samsung's, Flashed through TWRP, you name it and Ive had to do just about everything possible.

Its the fact that on Beyond Talk i paid $30 a month for Unlimited Talk, Text and Data, on this DDR i have to pay $40-45 just to break even with that. not to mention that with that basic package you cant even send a text to short code number, and places ive used my old Volt, with the same "Virgin Mobile" service, i now cant straight up get data or network signal because everywhere now has this "Roaming" problem i NEVER seemed to have had before. If you take a DDR in one hand and a regular VM phone in the other you would see what is so bad about it.

Im not a developer tho, I know little linux and writing codes, so yes i am limited on what i can actually do because i admit i dont know how to write what i want. But im learning.

Either way, Im only keeping this phone and service a little longer anyways. My area has good Sprint coverage overall, but their are others with a better price and offers that way better coverage where I live.

All s3's do. It supports it, but its not built in. Make sure you get the receiver part. It connects in the battery compartment. It makes the back hard to get on, and it bulges a little. Most cases won't fit anymore. But wireless charging is very convenient, in my opinion. So its worth the minor hassles.
 
Just a personal experience i bought my friend a data done right lg tribute 2 and he loves it. He then went out bought his girlfriend a data done right tribute 2 for $70 added her to his account and hes locked in for a long time. So yeah telling people to stay away from a phone just because you cant install a rom is kinda childish dont you think. Its still a phone even without the custom stuff.

You give your opinion and others can't??? As for custom, people like that and that is their choice, like buying a car/truck, never knew a person to not make a change, could be as simple as floor mats to a stereo or tires and rims or maybe engine or other parts, no one buys a house and just moves in, you might repaint, put up shelves, maybe a shed or fence in yard or put up a swing set for the kids. MOST/NOT ALL people like change and to customize things to make it the way they want it, so why not their phone? The S3 normal is so easy to odin, flash roms, recoveries, why would you want something so complicated or almost impossible to customize like a ddr??????

Without going too far off topic, even though most of this thread is anyway, my Otterbox Defender still fits great. :) Yes there is a slight buldge so I could see some cheap plastic hard shell cases having an issue but many other cases should be OK.

We have all wiped all that crap from our phones. Marketing and on device account control. I don't need to help them with marketing research, and i manage my account online. For those that need those things, more power to you. Everyone's needs are different. Developers who are building touchwiz based roms, ITSON is one of the first things they remove in the "debloating".
But if custom roms are not your thing, that's OK too. You can root the stock rom and use xposed framework and mod to your hearts content.
 
If theres gonna be roms devs need to learn virtual network technology. Dont just say iam going to remove the whole technology support from the rom. When things completely go virtual on sprints end not just data done right people are going to have to know how to make roms that are compatible with the virtual network technology.
 
Just a thought, Wal-Mart has a 15 day return policy where you pay for it use it 15 days then return it and get your money back. Was going to see about getting the s5 data done right that way to try it out if i like it keep it if i want to return it no big deal ill get my money back and then get another phone. I have the nexus 6 unlocked im just trying out phones, roms, ect.
 
Visual voicemail now works on data done right after yesterdays update. Was using slydial and the app straight to voicemail but after yesterdays update everything works now and it doesn't even have to be a system app.
