Help Triangle/battery symbol

Hey everyone. I just got my TMobile MyTouch 4g yesterday and I'm loving it. The only problem is I can't seem to figure out how half of the features and whatnot work. This is, literally, the first new phone I've gotten in 6 years so I'm pretty behind the times with all this android business. I noticed that after I turned on my phone, there was a little triangle symbol in the top left corner with a battery symbol in it. Can anyone tell me what this is and how to get rid of it? Any help would be much appreciated.
 
It's a just a simple warning telling you your battery is low, once charged (or not charged, doesn't really matter), drag down the status bar and click clear notifications.
