Trident Cases - A modest review

Hi everyone,
I just got my TB a few weeks ago and did some extensive research to find a great case to protect my investment. I have tried several cases to date including, Otterbox, Seidio, Body Glove (woof!), and some other generics to name a few. What I have found to be the best mix of quality, durability, and functionality has to be the Trident series of cases. In this review I am going to give my thoughts on the Trident Aegis Series case for the TB to hopefully help someone who is in search for that "perfect case". Near as I can tell, this is it. Here goes...

Review

The Trident Aegis Series case is similar to the Otterbox Defender Series case only without a holster or the built-in screen cover. Both of these omissions make the Trident Aegis a better case. The holster is not important to me for a phone of this size and the built-in screen cover just helps to trap dirt and lint which is a nuisance to someone obsessive-compulsive such as myself. The Aegis features three layers of protection including a precision cut, edge-to-edge, screen protector (gloss), a silicone intermediate layer, and a polycarbonate rubberized plastic outer layer. Here is how these layers stack up.

  1. Screen Protector - Nothing fancy here, just a gloss screen protector but it fits nicely and does the job.
  2. Silicon base layer - This is where it gets good. The silicone base layer is incredible. It fits snugly on the phone with precision cut ports for the headphone jack and the charger with cover flaps that fit neatly in place when not in use. The power button is raised slightly making it much easier to press than with no case at all. The camera and flash are exposed through the rear as well. The silicone itself has a texture to it that helps prevent that sticky feeling often associated with these types of covers and it does a nice job of preventing lint from sticking to it's surface. The Trident logo is embossed on the center of the back to great effect. It looks and feels very nice.
  3. Polycarbonate outer layer - The last layer is a rubberized plastic outer layer that acts as the tough exoskeleton of the device. It is smooth to the touch and the rubberized coating adds to its feeling of quality. The outer layer fits on very tight keeping your device safe while feeling like a part of the phone more so than a cover. It comes with a slot on the back for the embossed logo to fit through, and "Trident" is debossed on the lower rear near the pre-cut kickstand slot. The use of the devices factory kickstand is not hindered in the slightest and it looks pretty snazzy surrounded by this case. The case is offered in several colors as listed on their website and they retail for about $30.
Check them out. I think you will enjoy them.

I have the Trident case for my nexus. And I'm sorry but this case sucks. At first when I got it. I thought it was BA. I have a 3 year old who likes to play on my phone. So me and my husband thought it would be great in case he may drop my phone. So we bought it for around $40 (rip off) well I thought it was worth it. Until I call my husband and my mother in law. They would always complain saying there's always an echo. I didn't think anything of it. I had the case on for about two weeks, and there was always an echo when I had phone calls. I couldn't hear the echo but everyone on the other end would hear it. So one day I called my Hubby. And I had the case on, he would hear the echo then I told him to hold on, I took the black thing around off and asked if there was still an echo, he said yes so I said hold on, then I took the whole case off. I asked him is there still an echo, he said no there wasn't.

I believe that the case for the Nexus still needs improvement. The mic hole needs to be a bit bigger or in the right spot. But overall, the experience with the trident for my Nexus I'd give it a 6 out of 10.
