Triumph vs Optimus V My comparison!

903Tex

Android Enthusiast
Now this may be to late for some, or right on time for others. But this week ive been using a triumph and a optimus v to see what (I) think on which phone is worth your hard earn cash!

{Processors} TRIUMPH

Triumph- FAST!!! and i have had ALOT of phones on post paid accounts! First phone to where i didnt feel like i didnt NEED(but i did lol) to root, and flash a custom rom to make it a better experience. Also quadrant a 4485 on 1.6GHZ..........WINNING!

Optimus v- gets the job done! sometimes bogs, but not much to where you hate the phone but NOTICEABLE. Even rooted and flash bumblebee rom and overclocked to 864ghz i still saw lag of some sort! while this could have been MY optimus v experience others may not have this problem?!?

{Signal} DRAW

My honest opinion i think this vary from wherever you live. For me i live in a STRONG sprint area, so my service was never different and my data speeds where the same for both phones(As high as 1.25mb down) Now the bars on the triumph may seems misleading i honestly didnt have any problems with the triumph in buildings or outside. Now i heard that the triumph came with only a 1900 band only but even while inside i got 2-3 bars, while the optimus v said 4 - full bars. Never had ONE dropped call with triumph and others on the line said i sound like im on a landline.

{GPS} OPTIMUS V

Triumph - My triumph has BAD gps issues, even with gps confix i still couldnt lock on my location lesser than two minutes! And it gave my starting points four, five blocks away from where i really was! For the price regardless it better work 100% BUT there have been others who have NO issues with the gps on their triumphs

Optimus v - LOCKED ON WITHIN SECONDS! Gave correct locations at all times. So if you depend on gps then triumph MAY NOT be for you!!!

{DISPLAY} TRIUMPH (ONLY BECAUSE OF SCREEN SIZE)

Both phones showed good and never had any problems with quality of pictures, or while typing and scrolling thru app menu and pages!
Triumph won because of its 4.1 in screen!

{CAMERA} TRIUMPH

Triumph - Took really good pictures, and upgraded sd card to a class 10, video showed pretty good as well! But still not 720p quality from other phones ive seen with class 10 sd card.

Optimus v - ..........3.2mp........vga camera(i think) Not much to say on it but it gets the job done......I GUESS LOL!

{BUILD QUALITY} OPTIMUS V

Triumph - For a 300 phone........i felt like i had a cheaper phone at times! Now don't get me wrong the triumph is a nice phone, but the build quality isnt something i would go brag about. And what i mean about build quality the casing for the phone looks plastic, then looks like playdo at the same time lol!

Optimus V - Phone just looked like it could last for some time if taken care of! Like the metal going from the side to the top of the phone. And the hard buttons for home, search, etc.. Felt nice and had a cool little touch with the lighting on them.

{SPEAKERS} Triumph

Both phones sounded good and clear while playing music, loud with ringtones, and speaker phone with my units. Reason i give it to triumph was cause the speakers on the side of the phone, while the optimus has it on the back. So listening to music without headphones for the optimus means you have to lay it on the screen. While that may not be a problem for some but me and i know others out there don't like screen protectors BIG NO GO!

While the Optimus v and the Motorola triumph have there flaws i think either phone you can't go wrong with. Now IMHO the triumph the best phone for VM for it specs! But how the triumph started out and how some are still having problems might want to think about upgrading if your coming from a optimus or another phone VM phone. But if you get a triumph without any problems whatsoever......TRIUMPH BLOWS THE OPTIMUS AWAY PERIOD!

Hope this helps some on the edge of the bridge and by no means was this a post to make the triumph look bad to others! I have a triumph my Third one hit the charm. first and second were a BIG LEMON!

I owned them both and sent the Optimus to my son when I got the Triumph. I agree with you on all points. I even rooted and used Bumblebee on the Optimus (solid rom!). Currently root+OC, but stock on the Triumph. I miss a solid issue free phone, but I don't miss the lag. The camera on the Triumph has also replaced my regular digital camera (it was getting old).

Although I really, really want to defend the Triumph, I have to say that the signal seems better on the Optimus V. Maybe it's the antenna inside it or something, but data seems to work better, faster, etc.

Also, I would have to strongly commend the Triumph's screen for one more point: Resolution. The 800x480 pixel screen isn't exactly day and night when compared to the Optimus, but it's ultimately a big push that I notice enough to feel a bit cramped on a smaller phone now.

You didn't compare the phones where they couldn't be compared though, I see :p The Triumph has a crappy flash (but it's still a flash, lol). It has Flash media capabilities. And a processor that supports Firefox. It has a front-facing camera, although mine is still only good for pictures.

Okay, dissertation over, pretty good review. Although I think some of your points should have weightings behind them (e.g. a 1-5 scale) instead of just declaring a clear winner per category... makes things more interesting. (Not like it's my review, but still.)

Well i personally don't like point system lol! I mean to me where somebody could say 7 on this, it could be a 8 to me.... if that makes any sense? I didnt have a problem with the triumph data. I felt like they both were fast on data speeds and the only reason i didnt throw resolution was because some people don't care for those things. The main reason to my post was because i hear so much that the optimus (to some) is a better phone than the triumph, and i dont believe that entirely. With the great community here and triumph development is already as good or better than the optimus development. Now some dont care for root, roms, etc but a working phone, and i think both will do that just fine. The optimus v started off rough just like the triumph but with the great devs here at androidforums and other places made the v what it is today.

to compare 2 phones that are now 200 dollars in price difference is just crazy, for 99.00 dollars the V regardless to specs is still the more reliable phone,it works when it has to,you do not have to modify it in any way to get better radio reception.

I have never had an issue with the reception on my triumph. I have not modified anything related to it. My wife has an OV and she has very similar reception to what I get on my triumph. I have not been anywhere with both phones that has had any noticeable difference in signal. I do not mean a difference in the number of bars showing, that doesn't mean much, especially since one has 4 bars and the other 6. I mean a difference in the true signal strength in the status menus. While there may be some minute differences they are not enough that I have dropped more calls (less actually in my experience) or have slower data speeds. You would have to do a much more scientific study that isn't all your own (or my own) anecdotal evidence to get me to believe that one has a much better signal than the other.

I would say for half the price (at least when we got them, now it is less) the OV is probably a better deal. But I want a phone that is a bit beefier. By that I refer to the processor, the screen (both size and resolution), the camera, more room for apps without having to put everything on my SD card. And for that I am willing to pay the extra cash.

I would agree with most things the OP stated in his/her post. The things I personally don't agree with are the GPS (my triumph works just as good as my wife's OV). I would also include the fact that the triumph has more room for apps without having to modify things to put them all on your SD card. If you are a power user this doesn't really matter, but my mother/father/sister-in-law wouldn't be able to do that, and my wife is only able to because I do it for her. Most users want to do all that they want straight out of the box, and I think the triumph has a better overall experience that way (unless you got a defective one, but you can always go replace those!). I would also say that for people that only use the phone out of the box and do nothing to really modify it, the OV is a perfectly fine phone.

The optimus is 149.99 that was a sale price at best buy for 99.99. And the optimus v about to be EOL when the slider and wildfire come out as well! Comparing both phones isnt crazy considering for 150 more you can have a WAY better phone! And to me, i had to modify it because it was still had SOME lag, never once experience that with the triumph(but we know why...processor) Not saying the phone is BAD, just if you have both working perfectly then triumph is the phone to have PERIOD!

Did you not see this??? No offense

BUT there have been others who have NO issues with the gps on their triumphs

Yes, I did see that.

I was only saying that if you don't have GPS issues on your triumph that the OV wasn't a clear winner. That they were pretty equal.

True, i just compared on what i had. For my mom the optimus v is great, but to me i find it not as solid as its praised up to be. With my triumph i never felt like i needed to do anything to my phone to make it faster. But with great devs here i couldnt help it lol! For people who don't care for this and that, OP V is your phone, but if you do then i would stay away from the V!

This may come off vain and cheesy but the MT 'looks' more serious than the OV.

Dont get me wrong, I was strongly considering the OV because of it's good marks and $100 street price, while the MT at the time was $250-280 with GC or new activation promos which I don't qualify for. But looking at the two, the MT's monolithic 4.1" slab look intimitating. I'm not a shame to admit it smart phones are for showing off too when you 'whip it out' :D

screen on the triumph feels better(think optimus is plastic) but put your phone next to a epic touch 4G, it can go both ways :D
