Root Trouble flashing stock roms/kernel issue?

Hopefully I can get some pointers here. I have a boost mobile S5, SM-G900P (same as sprint). As per my typical approach with a new phone, I flashed a recovery (TWRP 2.8.7.0), made a backup of the stock rom and flashed the latest version of Cyanogen mod, 12.1 (android 5.1.1). This runs perfect and I really like it. I did notice that there was no GPS. After searching, the solution is to flash back to stock, get a gps lock, then power off and restore the CM 12.1.

When I went to restore my nandroid for the stock rom, it was corrupt.

I have downloaded several stock roms for the SM-G900P in an effort to work on the gps issue but here is the problem: They all boot, hang, then reboot into recovery. (I have tried four versions of stock rom with the same results).

I "think" it may be a kernel conflict between 5.0 and 5.1. I am tempted to flash a 5.0 kernel with odin as a test. I have used dd via an adb shell to make a backup copy of my boot partition. What makes me think this is NOT this issue is that the 5.0 roms should come with a 5.0 kernel. Any ideas?

You may be better re-posting this on the Root - Samsung Galaxy S5 section of the forum, where there will be other G900P users who are rooted.

The firmware contains a stock kernel which will replace the CM12.1 version. You may need to do a Factory Data Reset prior to flashing. Also, depending on how you rooted, if you had SuperSu installed, did you un-root yourself in its Settings before attempting to flash the stock firmware? Also, have you altered the .PIT files or bootloader at all?

I'll see if our friendly, helpful, kind and tolerant Mods can move this over to the Root section where those more well versed in your model can help.

I will try flashing that...as soon as I can get a download. Right now it gives me "session expired". Do you know if it is a zip for recovery flash or a tar.md needing an odin flash?

I don't have access to Odin at the moment, but will tomorrow. I use macs and heimdall (compiled from current source so it gets over the PIT issue).

As to root, I never rooted as CM 12.1 is rooted by default, so you flash a recover and flash a rooted rom, never touching the stock one.
 
I finally got this sorted....the answer is you can't downgrade from CM12.1 without formating internal storage and data.

I removed my SD with my working CM12.1 nandroid, did a recovery boot, standard wipe, format data, then advanced wipe for internal storage (options in TWRP recovery). I then did a reboot to download, and flashed the full stock 5.0 OTA for Boost Mobile and it took this time. After getting through the boost crap, I got a good gps lock then powered down, rebooted to download mode, pushed the current TWRP with heimdall, rebooted with my SD to recovery, did a good nandroid of the stock rom and restored my working CM12.1 from there.

As an aside, it did solve the GPS issue and the new phone is finally "done".
