Root Trouble with drivers

So I'm messing with this nexus tool kit and it seems I cannot for the life of me get the drivers installed. I cannot get the serial numbers to pop up on the tool kit. Can I get some help? I just want to do the cool things others do but can't get past step 1...lol I'm on Windows 8 btw which is hard to navigate as it is.

No I believe it's the 4.0 newest one from xda

You can use either, but I like wugs because it will walk you through step by step like 3 different ways to get the drivers to work

Thanks I'll try wugs It says driver installed on PC and recognizes the n7 but does not recognize it in fast boot or on the toolkit

Yeah it needs ADB drivers for fastboot, which are different from the regular drivers. But wugs has that covered, so you can still choose to use the other toolkit after you got it set up if you like. My preference goes out to wugs as well tho.
