I just upgraded to Froyo and everything was fine. Then I did something stupid and accidentally wiped out my contacts on the phone. I had saved a backup on my PC so I figured it would be no trouble to get them back on the phone.
Unfortunately Kies (1.53) is having all kinds of trouble connecting with the phone properly. There's a really long lag where the "Connecting to phone" window freezes for like 20 seconds and then it allegedly finds the phone. The connection appears to be ok but apparently it's not and I think the problem is somewhere on the Captivate. When I click on the Contacts icon in the Kies dock there's a long lag followed by the Contacts window opening up followed by another long lag (the window says connect your phone to your PC while this lag is going on...not a good sign). Then a window pops up saying that it's loading the contacts from the phone...but nothing happens and the window goes away and the Contacts window remains saying that I need to plug the phone into the computer even though Kies itself is displaying the phone in the upper right corner of the screen. I then tried to load the contacts on the PC, which worked. I selected all the exported contacts and clicked on the transfer button to send them to the phone. Another progress bar pops up but nothing happens and it eventually disappears. So no contacts were transferred.
I'm using Kies 1.53 because when I upgraded Kies to 2.0, before I did the Froyo upgrade with Kies Mini, it said my phone was not an authorized/valid phone. Obviously not true and the phone is not rooted so I regressed Kies to 1.53 thinking that Samsung blocked the Captivate on orders from AT&T. BTW, Kies Mini can't find the phone now either.
Anybody got any ideas on how I can either get my SPB file back on the phone or fix my Captivate so that it works with Kies 1.53 properly. I tried updating the drivers several times but that didn't alter the outcome any. I suspect not every device driver is loading on the Windows 7 64 system though because when I plug the phone in and select the Kies setting I get an enumerate sound on Windows 7 followed by a de-enumerate sound. And yet 1.53 can still find the phone. Sort of.
I checked calendar, even though my calendar is empty, and a similar scenario arose as when I tried accessing contacts in Kies. Only this time I got a "no response from phone" message. I'm thinking that Kies times out before there's enough time for the connection to be properly made due to this lag.
