some apps are only available for certain firmware i.e. 1.6,2.0,2.1. The eris runs on 1.5 and the Droid on 2.0.1 so the apps he may have are most likely not compatible with the 1.5 firmware and thus don't show up on your market.

What he said. There's also an issue with some apps that ARE for 1.5, but don't show up for some reason. Tapatalk was one of these apps as of a week ago, but, fortunately, the creator registered just to say he was working on it. Within a day or two, he had it fixed and up for download and it works fine.
