True Grit

Just saw it. Great movie, for sure. I never saw the original, but I think I will now. I would recommend it highly.

Man Jeff Bridges is on a roll in the past couple years isnt he. Good for him though he's a good actor. This does look like a good movie

Yeah, dude. Jeff Bridges is one of my all time favorite actors. Dare I say an Oscar, or at least a nomination is in his near future....

Well he already won last year, and the Duke won for his True Grit performance so maybe 2 in a row.

Well, regardless of winning last year, he did a phenomenal job with this movie. I can't remember the young lady who starred across from him, but she did VERY well also.

Unfortunately I tend to see this movie as yet another example of how Hollyweird has lost it's ability to produce good movies.

While it would be silly to directly compare this to the 1969 version of the movie, there are some differences that totally took the steam out of this for me. On the plus side, I think the new version made Mattie Ross the principal character of the story which, I think, is more inline with the book. On the minus side, I think Jeff portrayed Rooster Cogburn wrong. My guess is that he was trying to provide his own interpretation of Rooster Cogburn and not be accused of trying to step into the Dukes boots. That said I felt his version makes Rooster seem more like a mean drunk wearing a Marshalls badge.

I suspect in the long run this movie will be successful! That said I think there are still a lot of people in the Motion Picture Academy who will shudder at the thought of giving Jeff Bridges an Academy Award for his portrayal of Rooster Cogburn, the same role that won John Wayne his only Oscar. And I would suspect Jeff Bridges knew the risks going into this project. It's a difficult thing to fill the boots of an American Icon...

Have to wait until February for this in the UK:(

Coen brothers + western + Jeff Bridges + Josh Brolin, should be awesome.

This was a really good film. Have to watch it again before I make final judgement but it was one of the better Westerns I've seen. I don't agree with those who say it's hyped up and only successful because it's made by the Coen brothers. I wouldn't say it's one of the Coen brothers' best movies (not as good as No Country For Old Men) but it is one of the best movies that is out right now.

Haven't seen the original so I can't compare it to that. All three main actors gave very memorable performances though.

The dialogue in this film was incredible. I've watched the original a few times and personally I like how they did this one better, but that's just my opinion. The actress playing Mattie Ross was amazing and delivered her lines with a level of sincerity not seen often and Jeff Bridges was impressive. Especially considering he must of shot this and TRON Legacy back to back.

I really liked this movie. I originally wanted to see it because of Jeff Bridges. He was good in it, but I thought Hailee Steinfeld really stole the show.

I haven't seen the original. It was on TV a few weeks ago, but I avoided seeing it at the time because I don't want it to spoil anything for me. I would like to see the original now to see how it compares.
