Trying a new MicroSD

I've got an HTC Desire, but this may be more of a general Android question so mods - feel free to move the post if necessary.

The video recording on my Desire is patchy at best. Even at SD resolution, there's the occasional pause in the recording. I reckon this may be down to the transfer speed of the memory card, and want to try out a quicker one from another device

Whenever an application has the option to "move to SD card", I've done it.

Am I setting myself up for a whole load of problems if I just exchange SD cards and see if the fast one fixes the periodic video pauses? I'm not planning to run any other applications while doing the test - just those like Calendar that start up with the device.
 
I have a Lexar Class 6 16 GB card and I have to say the difference is not necessarily huge. SD video recording is more fluid, but HD is still very poor at times.

I'm assuming your card is probably a Class 2?
 
Thanks for the replies. I'm not entirely sure what's in there: It was already in when I got the phone. My eyesight isn't up to the job of reading the tiny writing on the card itself.

The one I have spare was bought to replace one in a helmet camera, and is definitely quick compared to the card it replaced, as it fixed a stuttering with that camera. Hence the reason for asking if it will cause any issues if I just try the card without first transferring everything from the old card.

I'd probably stick with a low(ish) capacity card if it fixes the issue: I'm a bit untidy with data so I'd just end up filling the phone to capacity with useless dross. Having 2GB, a chunk of which is taken up by the apps, means I have to keep control of how much video is on the phone in case I need the space and have none.

What's the highest "class" that the Desire can exploit?
