Trying to make a simple playlist

Ok, I never owned an iphone or ipod or any other apple product. I went with android because its supposed to be "open", kinda like pc, which I like. But I'm getting some problems with the simple task of playing audio from a folder I created. I copied an audiobook to my sd card in a folder I created. The book consists of chapters, each one a separate mp3 file, named in sequential order. All I want to do is play the audio book, but there is no option to play all files in the folder (like blackberry). I have both astro and estrong file managers, and neither of them can do this. So now I want to make a playlist of the contents of this folder, so I go into the music player (the default one) and try to make a playlist from there. Problem is that I can't find the mp3's nor browse to the folder I put them in from that music app. So rather than trying to download every music app or file browser on the market to find one that can do this, I decided to ask you experts for help. I'm sure this isn't difficult but its just that I'm new to android and evo, but I'm sure this can be done. Appreciate any help I can get.

Try putting the mp3 files in a folder on the SD card music/books/title

The SD card should be scanned for audio content when mounted, but the stock player might not look there.

Hey thanks for your reply. I did what you suggested and moved the folder into the music directory (btw estrong does this a lot more intuitively than astro), and sure enough, when I opened the music player, I was able to find all the files and put them into a playlist quite easily. When I tried to play the playlist, its now telling me "unable to play this type of audio file". Mind you, if I click the file to open it from either of the file browsers, it plays fine, using the very same music app. I don't know where I went wrong but I'm still sure there's an easy solution

The standard player might have problems with the format. Try Astro Player; I find it reads all the formats I have transferred.

Power amp pro, trial version, worked perfectly, plus its features are way beyond any other music player I've tried (i tried about 8 off the market), such as graphical equalizer, advanced settings, sporting by any properties you want, and the ability to select whatever folders you want for your music. I will gladly pay for the full version. I think this is exactly what I wanted
