Root Trying to root! but to no avail..(solved)

hey guys i have a prevail 2.3.6 FF19 from boost and ive tried the stickys on rooting but most threads are closed and i cant get the links or some stickys are just too cunfusing. i was looking around for one click root but then they say ODIN is the only way ??? . pls help . much appreciated .! thanks!:confused:
 
Hi,

your best, and safest bet is to use :

[GUIDE][CTmod] Rooting the Prevail for Dummies (written by a dummy)

Now there are a few differences, since FF19 is the latest baseband, but it's not fully rooted as I understand, so the FE16 is perfectly fine to use. I use the FE16 myself.

The ROM you put on like in the guide CTMod3.68 or any other one like cm7 or 187, it's just what you like. Descriptions of all the ROM's you can find here :

Don't be intimated by Odin. It's really not hard at all to use. I wish we had it for the Marquee. :D
 
most of the links on that guide were invalid or not found. the guide does help to root though. and odin is my friend aswell but when looking for odin and ops there were no links . and thelinks on the odin thread have been invalid aswell. it cnt be my network because ive tried it on two computers including my lg esteem lol. but no worries i found the one click root for the phone on the last page of one of the guides and now i am on my way to flashing away :]. but thank you none the less for helping me! i greatly appreciate it.:D

it seems to have did the trick. but if you can post some links for me the odin way just incase something went wrong i would definately appreciate it
so apparently its not properly rooted.. lol i have odin but i dont have the ops file. i believe that is all i need because i have the prevail rooted package .

the ops file should be included in the download... if it had odin in it, it had the .ops file... "sph-m820.ops"

which image did you download?

i took the odin i had for my samsung admire so i dont have the ops for the prevail because the links arent working for me.

i wouldnt use a different version of odin (although the versions are similar) which image are you wanting to use?

and also this is the only link on the odin thread that worked. but there is no ops file in it. "DOWNLOAD FE16 Gingerbread Stock Image by Koumajutsu"
 
Hey PRallday, the FE16 image I posted above is the rooted image..... I don't have the FE16 stock one on my dropbox..... so either LV or Cwhatever can post it for you, or check back here in an hour or so once I uploaded it ( got a slow connection ) !
 
I heard that there are some problems with the rooted version of the FF19..... I also did some tests ( speed tests ) here at my location and the 3G is definitely slower here. ( might work better somewhere else )..... I switched back to the FE16 rooted....... So far the best for me...... But you can try the Stock or the rooted, whatever suits you. I'd use FE16_Root_CWM, the link I posted above..... But the FE16_Stock will be up in an hour or so..... ;)

there are several "stock rooted"

if you plan to stick with the stock rom use fe16:

if you plan to install a custom rom use ff19:
FF19_ROOTED.zip

reason being is that the ff19 rooted image isnt properly rooted... samsung fudged the kernel so the normal method kouma used didnt work...

fe16 is fully rooted and will work as is.

ff19 isnt but as soon as you install a rom that changes the kernel (basically all of them :D ) then the problem is solved

edit-damn beaten to the punch... lol
 
Just remember that if you use any of the older stock rooted ones and don't install CTmod or CM7, you'll need to disable the update notification. There are threads in here on that subject.

You've got some good people in here. Lordvincent has been around for quite awhile and knows his way around this section and the Prevail better than most. VCE hasn't been around as long but is more than ready to help where and when he can. You've definitely got a good group of people in here to help out and point you in the right direction. you guys are on point .! i wonder what these phones would be like without the guidance of people that take the time to get into the software and manipulate it in so many ways.! you guys are great.:D
