Help Trying to root through sideload. USB issues.

Lurker
So here's the deal, I'm with AT&T and attempting to root my X10.

I've tried SuperOneClick to absolutely no avail, it looped RATC, I did the debug off/on/off method and it hung at the end. Tried it several more times with the same outcome and eventually gave up on it.

Next method is trying to sideload UniversalAndrood using the Sideload Wonder Machine.

The problem I'm getting with SWM is that it isn't recognizing my phone. The area showing List of Devices Attached is blank.

I've got the Android SDK installed, I'm running windows 7, so USB drivers shouldn't be a problem from everything I've read, but even still I've uninstalled em using USBDeview and had windows reinstall them automatically. USB debugging has been on the whole time, and I don't think it's ADB issues seeing as the SDK is fully updated.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I'm tired of sitting on 1.6.

Released three or four months ago in the US, bought it about 6 or 7 weeks ago.

Ridiculous, no?

The X10 received the 2.1 update and will be getting the 2.2 update sometime in Q1, supposedly, but the US is one of the last dozen or so regions which is still stuck with 1.6. The rest of the world has gotten it, we haven't.

There is a lady called Charlyee on here who is on AT&T and has successfully rooted her X10 and figured out some of the quirks of SWM. Might be worth a quick PM to her for a bit of advice. The one thing I can offer is that I think she had to turn her PC off. connect the phone and then turn the PC on and then SWM could see it... but that is from memory so probably better getting the info direct!

rosered is correct, try having your phone plugged in prior to switching on your computer. If that does not help, trying following the steps below for taking screen shots, upto where it recognizes your phone and then try the side loader again.

Good luck :)

How to take the shots on rooted and non rooted devices:

  1. Download and install the Android SDK[/URL]. Don

If you want and don't mind voiding your warranty then you could always
upgrade to 2.1.I made a guide which also has a guide to root your phone once on 2.1.

Its up to you i found it to be worth it and you can always downgrade to 1.6 if you need a repair.

I am running Win 7 32 bit:

I never have any problem now getting ADB apps to find my device - props to Nephron over at XDA - since you have already installed Android SDK :
Take the "android-sdk-windows" folder and move it to the root of your hard drive (C:\)

Right click on My Computer and click properties
Select the Advanced Tab or Advanced System Setting (Vista/Windows 7)
Select Environment Variables...
Press New

For Variable Name type: adb
For Variable Value type: C:\android-sdk-windows\tools

Worked perfectly for me.

If charlyee's method doesn't work try the above.

Good luck! :)

Thanks mlm122, nice to know there are options. At&t can sure make life difficult. I was so thrilled that now I can load non-market apps I installed a couple just because. Lol.

I am all for doing whatever is needed to remove AT&T's stranglehold on our phones :)

You know they even remove SE'S own sync server option! I am surprised they don't hire little elves to scrape the the SE logo off SE phones!!

"Your world delivered"

More like "Your world.. rebundled with bloatware and subscription services"
