Root Trystan34 Help

Trystan34

Newbie
Hi there,

I am new to rooting and flashing etc

I have an LG Optimus 2X

I want to over clock my phone to 1.5GHz

I still have stock rom on froyo 2.2.2
LG-P990
Baseband 1035.21_20110614
Kernel version 2.6.32.9
Build number FRG83G
LGE Version LGP990-V10c

I have rooted with super one click.

Can someone please help me? I want to over clock to 1.5GHz and make it fast as possible. Could you please tell me step by step how to do this and what rom to use and is the rom in a beta and has bugs or is ok. I am currently on the stock rom. I have made a back up using rom manager but I hear it

Hi Trystan... I will have a look in to this for you and try and help you out. I do not have an Optimus X, but do have experience in rooting.

I know that the camera on CM7 is not great... I can live with it though... I recently bought Camera Zoom FX and have been quite surprised!

When I get in from work, I will come back to you with a bit more info!!

Thank you. Is the overclocking to 1.5GHz a kernel mod?

Well I want to make my phone as fast as possible with overclocking but I am not sure how or what to do. I am a bit scared of changing my stock rom to cm
I'm going to be frank with you... I don't think you should mess with modifying your phone at this time. Why? It's quite clear that you "really" dont have the experience in doing so. And to be honest, overclocking a device - don't really show a huge difference in the phone's CPU. You might start having more problems after doing so. However, if you're mind set on modifying your device - then you should read up on the 'pros and cons' of overclocking your device CPU. Here's a LINK you should read if you decide on doing so.

Thank you. I read it and decided not to go with it but wanted to ask you a few questions.

Will installing CM 7.1 Stable make my phone faster?

Is set cpu ok to use to make it 1000mhz?

I have modded other things before such as a ps3, psp, old phone samsung star, calculator, wii etc

Hiya Trystan!

Sorry I didn't come back to you yesterday... with the people from work, we went out for post work/pre Christmas drinks and I've not long surfaced!

CM7.1 Stable is vanilla android and is ultra slick... it's what I run on my DHD and I have not had any problems with it!

One of the options (in an advanced settings menu of CM7) is to overclock, so you shouldn't need to get SetCPU seperately. All I can say is to be careful... overclocking by too much can cause instability/the phone to run quite hot (which could be a little dangerous)... I am not familiar with your phone, but I know it's not a good idea to overclock drastically for any great length of time.

There are custom kernels available (for the Desire HD at least) - these are by LorDmod on XDA. I would imagine that there would be something similar for your phone. The current one has undervolting scripts, which help with battery life... I currently get up to 2 days out of my phone (with WIFI on all the time and moderate use).

I will have a look for you to see if I can find any info on custom kernels, etc. for your phone.

I will try get back to you again this afternoon... just feeling a little sorry for myself!

Cheers,
D

Alright again!

Just had a quick look over on XDA for you... there's a whole thing about custom kernels for CM7 for your phone that should be worth a quick look - vorkKernel-OC/UV Kernel for CM[20111105] - xda-developers

As I said, I have no experience with your particular phone, but I have changed the kernel on my DHD... it is relatively straight forward to flash in clockwork. I am unsure how much experience you have in rooting, so perhaps it would be worth just trying CM7.1 and changing the CPU settings first, before looking at flashing another kernel.

Feel free to contact me again if you want more info mate!!

Thank you very very much on helping me :)

Why did you say "just feeling a little sorry for myself!" are you ok?

Should we contact each other in another method such as email or skype or will this be easier for you?

In New Zeland it is Christmas day today, I am not sure what day and time you are on but Merry Christams!!! Hope you have a good one :)

In the link you gave me for kernels It says The camera is unstable with E-Peen mod. Should I still try it though?

After going to cm 7.1 can I revert to stock rom from nandroid backup? Exact state from where I left it including all my apps? I use ClockworkMod.

Is Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) cm 7.1 very different to froyo 2.2.2?

I was feeling sorry for myself, as I'd drunk too much! I'm in the uk, so we've just had Christmas day, but my computer's died. I'm on the app at the moment, so I will have to try come back to you tomorrow when I can get on my parents computer! Hope you had a good Christmas and I'll reply properly tomorrow!
Cheers,
D

Ok thank you.

I am not sure... I don't have any experience with your phone...

A nandroid backup is an exact "picture" of how your phone is the moment you make it. This means with all apps and data as is... if you receive any texts after you made the backup and restore the backup, you will not have the messages.

I can't really comment, as I was only on Froyo for a week or two, before rooting and installing CM7.1

I believe that it is smoother, etc. but wouldn't like to make any generalisations, as I can't really compare (also, I came from HTC's Sense UI to CM7.1's Vanilla Android UI, which is quite a change anyway)
