Help TubeMate Scareware and PopUp Issues Recently

neuthrone

Lurker
While I was using TubeMate recently, popus for apps in the Google Play store keep popping up every few minutes. I admit it is incredibly annoying, but I can stand it. However...for the past few days, I keep getting "You have a virus (5)" popups when I go to the TubeMate update page and the video to m4a screen. I would close these out, but I get a weird what I can describe as smoke detector alarm that is loud and annoying that can only be stopped by closing TubeMate. Today is when it got serious (even though it is Scareware). I was just trying to get some music, and a popup came up saying my phone would be locked down in one day if I did not get a launcher for a music app that does not exist, this was coupled that this 'phisher' tried to lock my phone to TubeMate, but I was able to press the home button and leave. I have already contacted the developer for TubeMate, Devian, he did not give much help. What should I do, I have used TubeMate for years without issue, but with scareware constantly popping up, the app is almost impossible to use now.

This app is not on Google Play, so you must have downloaded it from some whatever site, in China or Russia or something. Think that's what happens when you use shady, and very probably illegal copyright infringing software. The dev/crime-syndicate doesn't care about you, he/she/it/they just wants the advertising $$$.

Dannydet is pretty much spot on, if you've emailed the dev and he/she can't really help, there's not much else you can do. The dev has decided that's how they want to monetise their app, with popup ads.

Tubemate violates youtube ToS and violates copyright so there isn't really much other advice we can offer.
