Help Turbo Problems

Hello. I'm not exactly sure what the problem is, but here's the best I can explain it:

The main problem is it not booting into android. I hold the power button, it shows the white Motorola logo, plays through the animation, sits at the "Droid" screen for about 45 seconds, then the screen goes black. The Turbo gets very hot and does nothing. However, sometimes, it will turn back on saying "Optimizing app x/4" then turning on. If it does turn on, it will work for a varied amount of time until apps start crashing, the phone getting very hot, and eventually the screen going black, showing about half a half a second of the intro animation, and dying altogether. Wierd, I know.

I've already tried:
1. Factory Resetting
2. Clearing Partition Cache
3. "adb sideload default.zip"
("adb sideload" fails with E: Footer is Wrong, E: Signature Verification failed, Aboting install")
4. Opening the phone and reconnecting battery
5. Completely discharging and recharging the battery
6. Contacting Verizon
7. Checking for water damage, none found

The only thing I can think of is a faulty battery or some overheat damage, although it never actually shut off. Any ideas? Any help appreciated :)

What did Verizon say when you contacted them? Presumably they sold it to you in the first place. Like is it under warranty, can they repair or replace it, etc.? Doesn't sound like a battery problem, more like there's something seriously wrong with the phone itself. If it's no longer under warranty, frankly I think you might be buying a new phone.

Thanks for your replies :)
Yes, it's not under warranty, which is why I was fine with opening it. The clip is very easy to get to, but the battery is not. Is there any way to check the health of the battery? I've had it for about 6-7 months and have been turbocharging it every night. I found out that this could be bad for it.

Also, another update. When android crashes, it doesn't give any errors. However, the phone goes really slow, apps start to lose functionality, but they don't technically crash. If I put the phone in standby, it wont turn back on unless android unfreezes. The phone is perfectly OK in the bootloader and recovery mode.

EDIT: I originally posted this on the Turbo itself, which, idiotically, I put into standby mode out of habit which won't turn back on.

I'm especially concerned that this behavior recurred after a factory data reset.

I do not believe that everyday turbo charging is bad for the battery.

***IF*** warranty is no longer in effect, and you've tried everything else, I might think about flashing the firmware using House of Moto.

Read that post carefully and make sure that you understand all of the steps.

I believe the firmware you will need is here: http://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Droid Turbo (XT1254)/Stock/

(Based on the name, the last one in that list is probably the one that you want, as the latest Turbo software version is SU4TL-44. You won't be able to flash older firmware over a new version of the bootloader.)

Just keep in mind that it's possible that there is just some sort of hardware failure that cannot be fixed, though.

However, you say that you've had the phone 6-7 months - then it should be under warranty. I'd contact Verizon or Motorola to get a warranty replacement. (Since you opened the back of the phone, though, I'd be up front about that; they may not honor the warranty if they discover you have opened it.)

... and who did you get the phone from? Verizon? Someone else? If someone else perhaps it was tampered with before you got it.

Baring that ... my pure guess would have been water damage.

Thanks, i'll try that soon. I've been looking for that firmware.

I bought it new from Verizon. I opened it up and took a look at the water indicators to find that they were normal; no water damage.

Water damage ... not uncommon ... water present and power on ... something gets fried ... water evaporates ... no sign that water was ever present.

Too bad you pulled the back off.

I had a Turbo do nearly the same things you're describing. I went to Verizon, and they didn't hesitate to give me a new phone.

Thing is, I pulled the back off before I tried that :P

Yeah, I guess you're right.

It does seem that everything takes a lot longer than if I got the phone new. I'm hoping it's not hardware damage but I think it might be :(

I have a Turbo 2 with water damage. For that one the battery drops to 0 in six hours and some things seem to take a lot longer ... like loading the system. Other than that it seems normal. It varies from device to device.

So I just tried this, and i'm getting a lot of "Can't load x.img: No Error"

Update: As long as I keep the battery charge under 30% the turbo works flawlessly. Is this bad for it? Is it a sign of hardware damage?

Also, keeping Battery Saver on also makes it work when it's above 30%

If you have any questions about House of Moto, you should ask on its forum. I've used it before (on a different phone) and it worked fine. It's important to read carefully, make sure that you move files into the proper folders, etc. It's all on the post, but - again - I'd ask on that forum.

Okay, thanks :)
