Turn Based Strategy. Is There Hope?!?

I have found myself addicted to a couple of turn based strategy games over my many years of gaming. The thing is, the ones that I have rated the best were in all actually quite simple in both play and production value.

What I am looking for now is something similar on the android. In each of these games you have multi players (human or computer), a goal of total conquest, turn based, requiring a build of forces while balancing technological advances.

I finally said goodnight to my palm last year (I held out a LONG time just because of this game) soley due to the game Strategic Commander. Instead of re-writing everything, here is a link to CNET with the games description: Strategic Commander for Palm - Free Palm software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

Now, before this game, there were two others. Strategic Conquest (a more one planet based military game) and Spaceward Ho (I think strategic commander was a rip off of this but I dont care, both were awesome). They are Mac oriented (although ported to PC too) games from Delta Tao. That website is here: Delta Tao Software - News

So, after reading about those games, you will know exactly what I am looking for. Is there any game like those? Is there any hope to develop one? They have to be pretty darned easy to make and I am hopeful that someone did just that.

Thanks for helping me with a quest for a new addiction to tie to my android platform! Haha.
Cheers.

Last great turn based games i played were Final Fantasy Tactics and what i still consider to be king Xcom UFO Defense. Xcom has so much micro management involved it's scary. And you still have to deal with combat etc.

Dunno if you will find anything like them on the market, but you might be able to get an emulator to work for them with your phone.

There is hope.

First of all, get UniWar. That is probably the best TBS on Android.

Beyond that, I know of at least a couple of developers who are considering doing some TBS stuff for Android (though I can't give you names, as I do not know if they'll actually follow through yet). I also have plans to do another TBS myself sometime in the future, though at the moment I'm quite busy with the new update to Pirates and Traders.

That is what I was afraid of Davey. I am really looking for one of those infinite replayable types with the random map generator like the three that I mentioned. They are all pretty simple although the ai may be complex so I was hoping someone would have made one.

Now the great little war game does not meet that criteria BUT after checking it out it really looks amazing. I can't wait to play it myself.

Not too many "real/classic" turn-based strategy games exists on Android, but you can check out Operation Barbarossa (graphics are not in 3D, but gameplay is highly addicting if you are familiar with the old classics):

Another classic Android wargame is Rommel in Africa (simple hexagon UI):

Too many of the so-called strategy games focus on eye-popping multimedia and the actual challenge and addicting gameplay are nowhere to be found.

freeciv is out for android - although it's beta release and buggy. report some bugs and help make it more stable?

Great question by the OP. Spaceward Ho! was my all-time favorite Win95 game. I can get it to run on XP but I'd really love to have an Android version. DeltaTao was working on an iPhone port a while ago but I think those efforts fizzled out.

Well there is some good news. Spaceward Ho has been ported over to Android and is now available.

I played Great Little War game and all its successors. It is a fabulous and addicting game. Great humor, gameplay, etc. It is not one of the infinite play type of games but the developers do seem interested in providing new campaigns so it has a long lasting value.
