Help Turn Off 3G

how do you turn off 3g and is there an app for turning off 3g? Thanks

you can use many widgets available or go into the settings>wireless & Networks and uncheck mobile network

hold down the power button on top, and turn off mobile networks.

Also, you can set the 3g to go inactive after a certain amount of time with the screen off meaning it wont hog ur battery and u don't have to keep switching it on and off just to save some battery. Turning 3g off though and only using it when needed can get you 2 days of battery life on just calls and txt and 3g when needed YMMV

How do you do this? Also, will it then use a 1x type connection and still get emails or will all data be "off" during this period?

data is off, not 1X. you wont get any emails until it turns it back on

You can add a widget to your homescreen as I did by following this path:
Menu; add to home; widget; settings; Mobile Network.
From there you can toggle on and off as you wish. It would have been nice if they included this into the power control widget.
