Help Turn off screen during calls error

Biggen69

Newbie
Hi everyone in totally new to android and I've just bought the galaxy s4. I've got it turned on in settings so when I answer can the screen turns off when it comes near my ear but when end the call the screen stays blank and I have to press home button screen to come back on.

I bought the phone second hand but is virtually new I also restored it back to factory settings last night. If anyone could help me I'd be great full. Thank you

Sounds like a bad proximity sensor. It senses when your head comes near it, but fails to stop sensing when your head moves away from it. It has to be replaced.

Unfortunately, that's one of those cheap parts that's not cheap to have replaced. (You can buy the part for under $3.)

What's the part called mate can I get it off eBay?. Cheers

Yo mate!
Before you go out and buy anything, I'd check the sensor myself!
don't take some unknown "Technician's" diagnosis without even testing a
device !!!

Do this:
using the phone dialer (the stock one)

dial *#0*#
select sensor by tapping on the word in the block
place your hand near the phone's sensor on the top right
the screen should change color and vibrate
take your hand away, and it should stop vibrating and revert to no color

if that happens (and I'll bet it will) there is nothing wrong with the sensor...

plz post your results!
Aloha and Good luck!

Sorry for delay. I tried what you said the screen went green and started vibrating and when I took my hand away from the top of the phone near the sensor it still stayed green and carried on vibrating mate
