turning off auto-correct?

Lurker
I have a Samsung Centura. I very much dislike the auto-correct feature, and I want to turn it off. I called customer service (for Straight Talk) and the girl thinks auto-correct on all Android phones is a permanent feature. I know it's not because I turned off auto-correct on my LG Vortex..and I've seen pathways to turn off auto-correct on other Samsung phones...just not the Centura, and it's not in the product manual.

Someone please tell me they were willing to share how to turn it off.

Much thanks in advance.

ahh...just found it on a hunch.
-get into any keyboard function (text, etc)
-hit the settings button (to left of space bar)
-go to "predictive text" (toggle it off)

Hold down the button near the space bar with the settings cog on it and go to settings. Turn off predictive text and see if that works.

EDIT: I see you beat me to it.
