Help Turning off shortcuts on keyboard?

I have had my HTC Desire Z for over a year now with very few problems. In the last few days, whenever I try typing on the physical keyboard, certain letters make things open on the screen

G- starts gmail
S - starts messages
B - opens the browser

I am sure that there is some preference that needs to be turned off, but I can't seem to find it?

P.S When I open Keyboard Shortcuts under the settings menu, nothing is assigned

You dont need to, but you can post the solution here so that when others have the same problem, they'll be able to search the solution from the search box
