Help Turning off "volume" volume

jiffy1

Newbie
On a nexus 5/kitkat, new android user as of a few days ago. Still just trying to calibrate things to my liking after coming from ios. I like my phone as quiet as possible but I can't seem to find anything about turning the volume off when adjusting volume from the lefthand buttons. This is possible isn't it?

And this is far more petty but is there a way to turn off that "tube tv" effect when sleeping your phone to just going black instead? I'd google that if I had an idea of what it was called.

If you hold the volume down button until it reaches "vibrate" mode, release, and then press the down button again it turns off. Another option is to hold the power button down a few seconds until the Power Off option pops up. This also includes turning off the volume.

I want to have the volume on, I just don't want the sound that comes with adjusting the volume. The same way I'm able to just off the dialpad volume for example.

If you want a good way to adjust all your different volumes look for an app called Volume Control. I've had the Pro version since the beginning of time and use it many times a day. It clearly shows the volume levels for master, notifications, media, in-call, etc. And you can adjust them with their sliders. You can save them as presets for ease and there is even a widget to switch between presets. One of the best apps I ever bought.

And it doesn't make a noise when you adjust any of the volumes!

If you want to adjust volume without the beeping noise just hold down the volume down button till it vibrates and press volume down again to go silent mode

If you root you have access to the system files and can remove and or change sound and animation files.
