Tutorial: How to QUICKLY manage Android folders via WiFi from a PC with ES File Explorer 3.0

Thanks, Great help, worked for me and I can see files on my phone. One problem though. When I open the DCIM folder for my phone (S4). The icons for all pics show up as flowers. The rest of my laptop I can see pics OK. I found a tip online that tells what to do about seeing flowers, but I did that and my DCIM folder still shows flowers.

I think that's because you're accessing the files via FTP, which is more limited, and doesn't allow viewing thumbnails.

I too had the problem that Windows Explorer wouldn't get access to the ftp server while I could browse the ftp server in Firefox.
This was due to not specifying a user name when creating the network link in the Windows wizard.
I instinctly chose "Log on anonymously" when asked by the wizard. Below this option you see the username "Anonymous" greyed out.
In ES File Explorer "Anonymous" also is the default user.
Hence I have no clue why it didn't work.

So this other time I unchecked that box and entered "Anonymous" by hand in the blank field.
And that's it for me! Good luck everyone..

On a side note: I let Llama automatically start up the ftp server on my Android when I connect to my home wifi.
To do this I use Nova Launcher and Secure Settings.
In Llama I set up the Condition that my wifi network is connected.
For the Action I choose Run Locale Plugin and then Secure Settings.
Under Actions I choose Execute Shortcut which will make you Choose A Shortcut again.
After tapping a window opens whose first entry should be Activities with the Nova icon next to it.
Tapping this opens a Nova window that lists the phone's apps.
Tapping ES File Explorer reveals all its activities. The one I'm looking for is called com.estrongs.android.pop.ftp.ESFtpShortcut.
Choosing this I'm all set up.

Thanks for the tutorial. But FYI...

As I mentioned in a separate thread, I uninstalled ES File Explorer yesterday due to privacy concerns WRT to the Chinese government. I switched to X-plore.

X-plore doesn't have an FTP server but there are a number of standalone FTP-server apps that could be launched by Llama or other automation apps.

Since FTP provides clunky access, rooted-users who want to access their phone's storage from PCs & Linux-PCs would probably find it nicer to run a standalone Samba (SMB) server, like SambaDroid. Mac users can run a Samba server on their phone, without root, using apps like Samba Server.
