Root Two different recovery systems?

I've been getting a lot of crashes lately (okay, I've only had my DX for two weeks, and rooted it promptly). I go to load the last nandroid backup, and I discover that besides Clockword Mod, there's another recovery system on my phone. I get the option when starting up recovery to select either CWM, or RZR recovery. I don't know how RZR recovery got on my phone in the first place. I thought, "oh heck, I'll try it." Well, it's just another recovery system. But now my phone is really messed up. I can't seem to boot into recovery anymore. I'm not that worried; I can always SBF back to stock again, as annoying as that is.

How did RZR recovery get on my phone? Does anybody else use it? Is it bad to have different recovery systems on my phone? How does one get rid of a recovery system; are there any scripts, or does one simply SBF back to stock? Obviously, having two different recoveries on the phone is a really bad idea.

Tell you what, for all the trouble this X has been, I think I'll just keep using my Eris, with its smaller screen & slower processor. Root was easy, and that phone is reliable.

several roms now come with both recoveries. Rzr works differently, but I prefer it.
It is not a problem for the X since the recovery is built into the rom rather than on its own partition, due to the locked bootloader. Really, your ability to choose between the two should have gave away the fact that it's done on purpose ;)

You must have tried restoring a cwm backup with rzr, which is a bad idea. Try to get back into cwm, wipe, and restore the rom with the proper recovery

Thanks for the reply. I was concerned because I didn't see RZR recovery there before, and didn't know how it got there. I'm of the 'keep it simple' sort, so I don't need a choice of recoveries, especially if picking the wrong one as you describe can muck things up. I've SBF-ed back to stock and rooted again (also because I kept getting crashes in some apps), so I'm going try to avoid added wrinkles that don't help me.

If a rom installs a recovery, is there a way to delete a previously installed recovery? I installed Bootstrap to get CWM recovery, so I could flash alternative roms. Can I do without Bootstrap/CWM? Are RZR or other recoveries possibly incompatible with the Hijacked Bootmenu that kY did?

Sorry, forgot about you O_o
Anyways, as I said, the recoveries are built into the rom, so I'd you flash a new rom, the old recoveries are lost, just like apps, etc on the old rom.
As for the backups, only use cwm backups with cwm recoveries, etc. Generally speaking, all cwm backups will work with whatever cwm you have. I don't think the dx has any ancient recovery systems that won't work with new backups.

The big problem with rzr is that not all roms have it, so you can't always use your backups.

And you should never use bootstraps if the rom you have has it's own recovery.
