Two holes at top left?

The LED is on the right side of the Verizon name on the front of the phone, but if you look close there are two holes to the left under the glass that must have some purpose. Anybody know what they are for? I tried covering them thinking they were for the screen brightness adjust but nothing changed.

ideas???

I think one is for help detecting when you put the phone to your face.
I thought the other was for auto brightness.

The government doesn't need to scan your brain via phones, they have satellites for that.
