Help Two HTC Desire-S phones- different download speeds

I have had my HTC Desire-S for some time. It is on a Vofafone SIM Free Contract as I purchased the phone outright about a year ago. My son has recently taken receipt of a Desire S on a different network. I am therefore now able to compare phones and can see straight away that the download speed and playback of Video on You Tube or BBC News etc is far better on my son's phone than on mine. Both phones are running the latest version of the Android operating system and I do not have hundreds of apps on the phone, so I cannot help wondering if there is a setting which is wrong. Can anyone provide me with a clue to what could be going wrong? Vodafone coverage in the area I live is pretty poor, so they provided me with something they call Sure Signal, which, when it works, gives excellent 3g reception. This leads me to doubt if it is a network problem.:confused:

If you're talking about download speed when using mobile data (i.e. 3G), then that's dependent on the capacity of the network provider - some are just better and faster than others. If so, it will have nothing to do with the phone or its software. Having excellent 3G reception has no bearing on how quick its down/upload speeds are - that all depends on capacity.

If you're referring to wifi, then it may be due to your phone's connectivity to your router, e.g. the channel your phone is using on your router or if you're interrupting the signal by the way you're holding your phone, i.e. 'wifi grip of death'.

It could also be down to data capped rates depending on network, type of contract etc... I think this is the most likely reason, but don't quote me on that!
