Help Two minutes with a new LG Motion--- one thumb down

AppleUser

Android Enthusiast
I've been using a Samsung Admire and it's been very good. MetroPCS has a special now, so I took a Motion on a test drive. Remember, this is a brief use.

What a few minutes with the Motion has shown:

GOOD
1. Screen has better whites and contrast.

2. Much faster surfing

3. Dialpad numbers larger

4. Enjoy swiping the screen anywhere to unlock it. The Admire has a dedicated tab to swipe.

HOWEVER:

• 1. Don't like the power on button located at the top edge.

• 2. Don't like the charging/transfer port on the lower left edge. Not convenient if the cord is attached while talking on the phone. Admire has the port on the center bottom.

• 3. As per another thread, it doesn't connect to my Macs to transfer files. It actually has turned off my Mac several times as if it were a short. The Admire connects and transfer files easily. I've changed the USB menu, and my Mac doesn't recognize the car

• 4. Most of the time the 4G emblem disappears and an "EV" appears, but it still surfs. What is "EV" ?

• 5. With almost every call the receiving person said I sounded like I was in a tunnel and there was variable reverberation. All calls yielded feedback that the Admire sounded better.

I would get the Galaxy S3 if it were available in Black. Right now MetroPCS has only the white one in stock

Do I have a defective Motion ?

:ditto:

LG Motion grinds Samsung Admire into skull dust.

That file isn't necessary for my Macs.

I simply turned on BLUETOOTH, paired with the Motion, and now have access to all the folders. No USB cord needed. No driver needed.

In the next few days, if the positives don't outweigh the negatives on this Motion, will return it and just continue with the Admire.

1. Get used to it, every phone is going this way, including (I believe) your beloved S3

2. Again, get used to it, LOTS of phones are doing this now. The S3 does have it on the bottom, but most new phones are putting them on the side now. besides, with the battery life of this phone, why would you need to charge it while talking?

3. Well, you have a Mac, so you should be used to this by now. They will probably fix this soon (I would contact Mac and or LG support to see what the problem is)

4. Your area does not have good 4g coverage yet. Their getting more and more every day so most likely youll get much better soon. And EV means 3G

5. Sounds like you have a busted mic. I would take it back to Metro and tell them to give you another one

Heres the thing though. If this is what you are complaining about, going from a Samsung Admire to this phone (which has almost the exact same hardware as the S3), and you wont buy the S3 because Metro only has it in white, then I just dont know what to say. I think you need to get an iPhone because they might be better suited to you, just as you have a Mac, PCs and Android phones might be beyond you.

I don't have to get used to it. YOU have a right to your preferences and so do I. This is not a matter of right or wrong. There are many devices featuring defects in design and manufacture.

The battery life of the Motion is not that great, or they wouldn't be making extended batteries.

I have many Macs and PCs, and the Macs have been superior. No need to contact support. Instead of using a USB cord to transfer files with this Motion, I just use BLUETOOTH. It's quick and easy on the Macs.

I will not purchase a phone based upon what "might" occur in the future. It needs to work now.

To me, white looks feminine. To you, it may not. I want a black phone without the added bulk or texture or inconvenience of an external case. When a case was applied to this Motion, the three primary hard contact switches did not work as well and the ability to locate them was reduced.

Yes, I will try another Motion to see if the audio quality is better.

My post was after only a few minutes of use. Part of my living is evaluating products. viz defects in design and manufacture, usability, etc. So I always take a consumer product and use it initially without reading the manual.

Seems my not drooling over this Motion has bothered you as if you have a vested interest. I only stated the initial pos and negs after a few minutes of use. I've been using Macs, PCs, and Androids since their inception, and none are "beyond" me. Why you would state something so silly is beyond me.

I think the Samsung Galaxy S III would be a better option for you imo. It being that you were a iPhone user and have high quality standards, The SGSIII would live up to those standards.

I'm not using an iPhone and rarely do, but agree with your conclusion

calling a feature on a phone that doesnt happen to suit your personal preferences a defect is rather ridiculous. hopefully you're not saying this in this case.

just about every phone with a removable battery has extended batteries made for it, including the admire.
2600mAh Extended Battery w/ Battery Cover for Samsung Admire R720 B4-SAR720-XT

besides that, i respect your opinion even if i sorely disagree with it. do whats best for you.

You are misreading text. I stated there are defects in design and manufacture, but never stated that any one or more my strong preferences in the Admire vs. Motion fall into one or both of those categories. Need to use the Motion further before pronouncing sentence from the bench.

Since you said "The battery life of the Motion is not that great, or they wouldn't be making extended batteries." I believe he's saying basically every single phone has a extended battery even the droid razr maxx had an external extended battery pack even though it had the best battery life of a smartphone at the time

This phone eats the admire. Try updating your prl to get rid of the EV. I've owned or own all of the phones you speak of and the s3 is hands down the best but it seems your more into cosmetics than functionality and performance and for that I would surely recommend the s3. If you don't like the white you can always get a case and your problems solved.

I have lots of problems with call quality too depending on where I am. There are some areas where even though I have 2-3 bars it simply doesn't work very well. Chalk it up to Metropcs service, not the fault of the phone itself.

Aside from not wanting a white phone, the camera activation on the S3 is a deal-breaker, so I never examined and tried all the available cases. I did try two Galaxy cases, and they only covered the back and sides, so the white was evident from the front. All my girlfriends/SOs have had white phones and I've only owned black phones. A black bezel is also more pleasing when viewing the screen.

DEAL-BREAKER: The Galaxy unfortunately requires pressing a small portion of the screen surface to take a picture, whereas the Motion and Admire take advantage of a conveniently located side switch.

For the suggestion of updating the PRL, you get a "thanks".

Sure, you can "simply" turn on Bluetooth to transfer a few files... That's what I do between my phone and Windows as well as with my phone and tablet when there's a few small files to move.

I'd like to see you attempt to transfer gigs of music or video over Bluetooth... :smokingsomb:

My post was after only a few minutes of use.

I dont understand why users post a personal review on here only after a few minutes of use. Its happened before, i've read a few of them. Its almost like coming in here and saying "This phone sucks" and then the user seems surprised about the feedback or maybe they're not surprised at all. Maybe its exactly what they wanted. :hmmmm:

I would tend to agree with that. You need mote than a few minutes with a phone to judge quality.

It sounds like yours may have been defective, but we will never know for sure because it was only a few minutes and it doesn't like like there was any troubleshooting

yeah it sounds to me like an Android phone may be too complicated for you...it makes me wonder how you were able to use your Admire without problems...

The S3 only comes in black for Verizon by the way.

I don't particularly care for the location of the charger/usb port or the power button either, however I knew that's where they were located and I know several other LG phones I had before had this same button configuration. Not a deal breaker for me considering how great this phone is especially for what I paid for it.

As for the case making the connection points and the power button difficult to use/find I think you just had a crappy case or sorry didn't put it on correctly. I have a 2 layer case and don't have any kind of problems you're talking about.

I came from an Admire and quite honestly I could never go back. It just plain sucked compared to the Motion. Calls on my Admire never sounded all that clear or loud, I would lose calls and my signal wasn't all that strong. Upgraded to the Motion, same location and everything. Clear and loud calls on both ends and 3-4 bars where I use to get 1-2.

Seriously though if you only take a few minutes or even a few hours with a phone and think that's a comprehensive review I really want to know who you do product reviews for so I know which ones to just automatically disregard. I mean real product reviews like the folks over at CNET spend several days with a phone using it in every imaginable way before they are willing to give their review of a product.

1. Yes, I know MetroPCS doesn't have black, so it makes no difference as to which other carrier does have it in black.

2. Glad we agree on the USB port.

3. Case selection is moot. Will just not use a case. My Admire has done fine without a case. I did have Ghost Armor on the surface, but it seemed to cause input errors, so will remove it.

4. We have different experiences on calls. The Admire sounded better on most calls, has the same or greater bars, and was consistent and more pleasing in audio quality. I've had substantially fewer dropped calls with the Admire than the this Motion. Perhaps I'll try a second Motion. Anyone here second that Motion ? j/k

5. Where I reside, the Motion is usually on EV, and the Admire stays on 3G.

6. My initial impressions of negative and positive on any product rarely change with extensive use. First impressions are often correct. Many times I've disagreed with CNet and Epinions, and sometimes even PhoneScoop. So I trust my own appraisals.

7. The Galaxy looked nice, but I must have the side buttons for controlling stills and videos. Period. If the Galaxy had that, I'd buy it immediately. The Admire and Motion both have side buttons for the camera.

Did you not want me to ever post initial impressions again ?

Continue to wonder then. No substantial problems with the Admire except for 3G speed and filling the relatively low internal memory.
