Two-way radio with LOUDEST alert??

I work in a noisy carpentry/cabinetry shop, and we are now moving into a much larger building. We will be constantly communicating with our main design/engineer guy (I'm in the fabrication/finishing part).

I see a big need here for a two-way radio. Currently, in our smaller facility, all we have to do is yell "Hey Bo, ___________". In the larger facility, that's not going to happen. Too much distance, noisy machines, and walls between us and him.


I NEVER hear my mobile phone ring, even with custom made photon-torpedo sound alerts that I've customized so loud that I'm shocked that my speakers haven't killed over yet.


I'm hoping someone here, most of us being widget geeks, can suggest a 2-way radio that has a very loud, shrill alert sound. The sort that makes dead folks wet their pants. Any suggestions? I know nothing about 2-way radios, and really need some direction here.
 
If you mean "two way radio" Android apps, if you can't hear the loudest volume you can make with a ringtone, there are two problems. First, you can't get an alert that's louder than a ringtone - they're the same thing, just used by different parts of Androd. And second, if you're not wearing hearing protectors, you'll be wering hearing aids in a few years.

If you mean real two way radios, not the little "2 on a card" consumer types you can get in Walmart. They're not easy to hear on a busy city street. But Motorola makes some that they could probably give you a 10Watt audio amp for the alert. (There are federal laws that prohibit anything above a certain level - you'd hear the sound of a jet engine at 5 feet, but you wouldn't hear for very much longer. (That "listening at high levels ..." toast that most cellphones give you once in a while aren't meant as a joke - I lost about 20db of hearing in one ear due to one single loud alert on a radio I was holding to my ear because we were running a very loud concert ([large didgeridoos are very loud]). And good hearing aids aren't cheap.
 
How about vibration or visual alert? I used to use vibration alert when I worked at a manufacturing facility.
 
We all wear mp3 players or earplugs, a BT heatset would be nice but we would destroy them in no time flat.

I'm looking for something that simply makes a rather loud alert when it is paged. We will be keeping these at select places within the shop, not wearing them (we already wear too much belt gear).
 
I see. Perhaps a hardwired intercom system with a flashing CALL light might be the answer. I tried searching for such... I did not find anything with a quick search. I work in a noisy environment as well. I'm not likely to hear much over the saws etc. A flashing light at my station might.. and I say might get my attention. Vibration would require wearing a pager or such.. which you wish to avoid. I don't know of any communication that it's notification will be loud enough. You could McGiver something with an end burglar alarm sort of notification. Years ago I had a two way radio in my work truck (pre cell phone) I had it installed such that it would trip my horn with an incoming call. A cheap Radio Shack auto alarm and a bit of wiring and I was annoying everyone when I got a call. :)
 
Lol,.... both my supervisor and I are jury-rig geeks. Maybe we can rob the horn out of something at a junkyard and wire it into the 2-way radio lol.

burglar alarm sirens are cheap to buy, and easy to rig up to generate either tone or loudspeaker from them.
 
If you get a 2-way radio wired for external alert (Maxon made them, Midland had a couple, Motorola still makes them), it's just an external relay to handle the load. And an old klaxon (somethig like the old WWII submarine dive horn) would probably be loud enough for any manufacturing facility. A few if it's a really large building.
 
HA! A WWII Sub-dive klaxon would be epic. My shop owner is a former sub nuke, and my co-worker was a weapons specialist on a frigate.

Now, Rukbat, I am committed to doing this. Would be perfect lol.
