I was able to download using the Mirror.

Also I have a problem with the recovery, I'm unable to make any backups. (It says it's making the backup but when I reboot and look inside the TWRP folder it's empty)

Not sure if I'm the only one with that problem or not.
Other than that, everything works great.

Thanks for the recovery. :)

I did it for internal and I figured out what was going on..

I loaded up Terminal Emulator and did 'ls /sdcard/TWRP/' and it shows that the folder 'BACKUPS' exists but when I try to access the folder, I get access denied.

I tried using Root Browser to see if I could see the folder but it's still hidden..

Well ES File Explorer can see it but not access it, strange. xD
That's normal since KitKat broke writing to the external SD Card. Go to the playstore and download "SDCard Fix" (there are a number of apps based on "fixing" the ability to write to an external SD Card). Run the app, reboot and viola - you will be able to make backups and write to the SD card

Restoring a TWRP backup doesn't work, it just goes to a black screen and prevents you from turning the phone on or off, I had to pull the battery out and after that had to reinstall everything, luckily I was able to use titanium backup to restore app data and apps not in the play store.

Which firmware is your phone using?

I wonder if TWRP had a write fail (or something) so that the backup never existed since you could view the TWRP\Backups folder but couldn't view any farther down the path nor the contents. All of the files should be viewable. There should be TWRP\Backups\<backupID(I guess that's what is it)>\<the name you gave it>\<the files>

Is is possible the backup didn't exist and crashed as a result?

Edit:
Ooops, just noticed that you could see something(?) with ES explorer but got access denied... something was amiss.

Hello, please forgive me if someone else has asked this or if it has already been answered, but I have the Metro PCS variant of the Avant and I was just wondering if I can flash this to my device? I know that it's probably the same as the T-Mobile version but the only reason I ask is because my device model # is SM-G#86T1 and I noticed the T-Mobile Avant is model # SM-G#86T. Thanks for your help!

Yes you can. Both phones are identical. I have the metro version too.

I'm running AHNA and the backup was there but had a weird permission that prevented it from being viewed by some apps, i plugged my phone into my PC and moved the folder to the desktop and back to make it viewable in root browser.

Has anyone else had problems restoring a backup?

Its probably not necessary but if you have any more problems finding files on your SD, even after applying SD fix, put any apps that need read & write permission in /system/priv-app. Any app you put in this folder will have full access to the SD card with or without kitkat SD patch.

ok thank you, now would i just download the T-Mobile firmware and just flash using odin? Also, have you tried flashing the T-Mobile firmware on the M-PCS version and if so is anything affected (talk, text, data) anything like that?

I never test it out BC I have MetroPCS and I didn't brick yet

I tried to restore another backup and had the black screen problem again so I went ahead and downgraded TWRP to 2.8.1.0 and I was able to successfully restore my backup.

Just thought I'd let you guys know as I don't know if It was just my phone having this problem or an issue with the newer TWRP build.

Flashing the T-Mobile firmware doesn't cause any issues. I ran the T-Mobile firmware for almost a month. It just has a few different apps (T-Mobile instead of MetroPCS) and different startup & shutdown sounds & animations. Also flashing the T-Mobile firmware allows you to get T-Mobile service without paying to sim-unlock but it still works on metro too.
