Help Twrp recovery to flash Roms?

This is my first post ever on aforum of any kind lol let me just say real quick that yes I am certainly a noob when it comes to the world of rooted android, however due to a recent identity theft which nearly ruined my life I'm quickly learning the vast realm of endless possibilities! So much information with so little time and kids to take care of that I can only learn so much. Nonetheless I have a pretty good idea of how things work at least the things that are used for intrusion and theft. wanted to try and learn that stuff so that I could identify intrusion and wipe it out but it's just too hard right now I don't have the time so I'm going to start flashing ROMs I have twrp installed know how to use it then play with it a little bit and now I'm ready for ROM sorry for all the talking finally here is my question: if installation instructions call for flash via clockworkmod, is that really necessary? Can't I just use TWRP? Tyvm for any and all information and help/advice ETC
 
Boom!fell on the first try and success on the second. now I've got to do is figure out how to get the portable hotspot working.looks like the mod has built-in access setup but just like any rooted wifi app I can connect but no response from the internet every single time not sure what to do going to have to start looking at these processe connection and whatnot cuz that's not really up my alley
