Help Ugh the ZTE Hurts...

AcydDrop

Lurker
Hi all ! This is my first post here on the forums, but a long time lurker. I wish I had a better subject to talk about but I felt like I needed to post on this particular topic. Before beginning I want to say that I've enjoyed Boost when I had my Prevail, it was small but rock solid quality. So this isn't a riff on Boost or anyone that enjoys what Boost has to offer, I'm in complete agreement generally with all the arguments for why Boost is basically a good setup. I also have loved all the work that people like HROAK and the rest have put into these phones. It's been really appreciated (though from a Distance until now) and enjoyed. Now with that said.

My experience with the ZTE Warp has been nothing short of an absolute unmitigated disaster. It was fine for the first week than after it began to crash from the silliest things (like pressing the back capacitive button for example). I've now put up with this non-sense for 3 weeks, the return policy was just silly. I don't want to be without a phone (in fact I can't be without a phone due to work). The specs on the ZTE Warp are really pretty decent given it's price, and the unlimited nature of Boost Mobile, that is; When it works. I realize I could stop whining and try sending it back and hope I get a much more reliable Warp. But I don't really have the time or the patience to go that route. Given that I went to Boost for a long term "commitment" in the first place (ie: though it is month to month I really figured I'd be with them for years) I finally had to decide either fish or cut bait with the Warp and Boost at this point.

The biggest problem I had was once you went to the larger screen size of the warp, and the larger amount of RAM & storage for apps. It's really hard to go back to the Prevail. So I owe the ZTE Warp that much gratitude. But ultimately I had to decide what was best for me and my work situation. So I finally bit the bullet and just went with Verizon and the HTC Rezound. It has all the things I liked about the Warp (big screen, memory, faster proc) just sans all the bother of the crashing and instability issues.

I would never personally recommend the ZTE Warp now based on my own experience. But I don't begrudge anyone trying this phone. Because I can certainly tell that if you get a good working one without all the problems I had; I'm sure it's an amazing phone to own and use. I just wanted to more or less lay out my own experience with this phone.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and remember this is just one persons opinion. It's probably not even a good opinion and as I said if the ZTE works great for you than I'm extreme happy for you. Had mine worked well too, I'd of been in the ZTE fanboi camp.

I am a lucky one that got an issue free ZTE Warp.
I buy it in a Miami store and updated it to latest B08 immediately, then rooted, su updated, installed Titanium Backup, restored my apps from my old HTC EVO, etc.

Only issue I had was music app autostarting sometimes, don't know why yet, but installed Zimly and that problem disappeared.

I have 369 apps right now but all works fast and stable.

I hear you ya on the screen size difference. It's probably the main reason I won't be going to the Marquee as I had planned, but instead, be looking at other options.

The next phone boost gets that's The same size and performance as the warp I'm jumping over to it.... I thought about flashing a phone to boost but I'm scared it won't work and I'd be ****ed out of money

my warp is great no prob. i say if u got probs use the nandroid that woodstock made. that takes phone back to brand new.

Mines OK. I just want a faster phone. With a better camera.... only freezes up every once in a while. And I use it HEAVY! it mainly freezes when I Do too much like pop between a lot of programs fast.

That's funny, because after I read your post and started scrolling up, mine froze up (just rebooted). It was the first one in the past 40 minutes, so I guess I was fortunate.

I thought about flashing the HTC Evo to Boost since it's on sprint, but the legal issues scared me off more than actually flashing it. Since I know if you hijack the donor phone ESN Boost would simply think it's .. Say .. Your ZTE Warp, but according to federal law that's a HUGE no-no. The last thing I need is some angry gov't letter agency knocking on my door. Even if the possibility is 0.00000001% of that ever happening it's still too much risk for me. But I know what you mean, still you can pick up pre-flashed phones for like $220 or so for a used one on eBay, but that's still 220 bucks you might be throwing to the wind (plus the legality issues).

It did cross my mind though.

Do you have a link to it, I will go poke around but just in case I don't find it. I'll try sending this back to stock it's certainly worth a try. My intention is to send it back to stock anyway and sell it for like $130 on eBay at some point.

This was my first Android phone. When I first got it I was thrilled with my new toy. I really loved the screen size and the convienient boost app and IDs Boost has for the phone. After about tree weeks the phone started locking up, rebooting randomly, etc. I first thought it had something to do with switching from the 2gb micro SD to a 32gb card. - Well, that ain't it folks. I've done all the updates on the phone using Settings - About Phone - System Updates but when I enable WiFi (and that's not always easy to do) the warp often locks up. It often repeatedly boots several times within a few minutes. I end up having to take out the battery. The biggest pain is when I'm talking on the phone and my phone reboots in the middle of my conversation. It's like the thing is possessed. I'm getting really tired of this unreliability. I've tried uninstalling or turning off various apps. I've turned off unnecessary things running and still have the problems. I personally believe there needs to be a recall on this phone and a refund option. I've only been with Boost 3 months and while the folks I've met in their retail stores are not the most professional out there, I don't really have a beef with Boost per-se. I was a bit ticked with the Boost store return policy (or should I say "no return" policy). I wanted to buy the phone from BestBuy so I could get a $30? 2 year service agreement instead of $5 a month from Boost. I opted not to get insurance. I've noticed ads from Net10 and StraighTalk for a new LG Optimus 2x dual core phone coming with 8 mega pixel camera etc. I think I just might have to forget this Warped Warp and switch. Before I would ever buy another ZTE phone I'd wait and read the forums first.

Did you try a hard reset on the phone before throwing in the towel? I know a big problem people have with their phones is installing apps that aren't compatible creating lots of issues.

Mine reviews when I push it to hard. Phone is really hot when it happens. I'm living with the problems hoping hoping there will be updates to fix the reboot issues and the memory issues. Zte is relatively new and isn't Samsung. So in time they will get an error free is up and running, and fix some of the other issues

Whelp.. i had a few reboot issues then, after i did a factory reset, they stopped.

I installed everything except Lockout security and no lockups.
The only issues I have had sense is if i am using Superdim flashlight and the screen locks. There seems to be a conflict with Superdim and Magiclocker.

I did a experiment last night to see if it was the phone or apps that cause freezes/reboots. I did a complete wipe of my card, and reset of the phone. I even wiped the card 3 times to make sure it was clean. Afterwards, I installed no apps.
So far this morning, I have had it to freeze & reboot 3 times.

Oh man. Im soooo glad im not the only one. I switched to zeam launcher. Hoping that it would help. Being its tiny for a launcher, and about as minimal as they come. But still random fc's, reboots. Im holding out for the possibility that a rom could save the warp

Maybe a dumb question. But is the majority of the people experiencing this rooted? Or is it just zte trolls

That's a good question really. I never had a f,c when I was fully stock... either has my friends who still aren't rooted

I did not experience this stock or rooted. It seems that the people that have problems have problems stock and rooted. It is therefor not a stretch to believe this is a hardware problem as software has not really changed most peoples phone issues. This is a phone from China. China has been know to have quality control issues. Heck for that matter good ol' US of A has had quality control problems. I would not be surprised to find that certain batches of phones were all problematic while other batches were fine. The only difference is you might have a better chance of getting a recall in the USA if a batch was bad.

Hello,

Some people have issues like FCs, reboots, etc. I never had that problems with my ZTE Warp, so I ask to all people having issues:
- Do you have latest B08 update?
- Are you rooted?
Maybe latest update fixes that issues...
Anyway, what I did with my phone was update it to B08 immediately after buy it, then I rooted it and installed GoLauncherEx.

I have 370 apps right now but all is fast and stable.

Thanks

Maybe it's a program we use with root???. .I have adfree, titanium backup, barnacle teather, and well superuser.
