As far as I know the Rezound is not UHS compatible. However if I use a UHS-1 microSD card will it just work at the fastest compatible speed?

Yes, UHS-1 cards are backwards compatible as long as the device is capable of a storage card that size. The Rezound can support 64GB microSD cards, I have tried anything larger.
