Help UI button at bottom left of screen does not work

eastlands

I have started to have a strange issue with my Umi Touch device running Android 6.

In general the phone works as expected and the touchscreen is responsive. All characters on the virtual keyboard work as expected however on multiple apps any button showing at the lower right (not left as in post heading) of the screen in portrait mode does not accept taps. If the app is written for landscape mode I can rotae the screen and the button will then work as expected.

An example is the "three vertical dots" setting button in the standard clock app. In portrait this shows at the lower left of the screen and does not accept taps. In landscape it is moved to the top right of the screen and works as expected.

A slight different example of such a button is the "+" button in the default calculator app. Actually this one does accept a tap but it is interpreted as a "-" (i.e. the button above) rather than the one I actually tapped.

This sort of issue seems to occur in multiple apps but since the keyboard seems to work correctly I don't think this is a problem with the touch screen alignment or calibration.

Does anyone have any ideas?
