Root UK Atrix 2.2 where do I stand regarding gingerbread and rooting.

Hi, I am very tempted to buy this phone sim free in the UK. But I'm very confused as to whether it has a future in terms of software updates. And whether it can be rooted. I understand that the American carrier version is different.

Because of this I'm very confused which instructions applies to what phone. I'm bit of a newbie and I'm getting conflicting information about whether the phone can be fully rooted.

I suppose the main thing is whether gingerbread is coming. But I've always wanted to experiment with different ROMs

The GB update for the UK is apparently happening, it is just a question of when.
Moto are saying mid-november, but this has gone back from end october - then early Q4 - so who knows

The issue seems to be testing by Orange etc, and Motos inability to test properly apparently.

Personally I would be patient and wait for this - apparently the Motoblur side of things is reduced in GB.

If after you have received the update, or indeed in the interim, I would look at an alternate launcher as a stop-gap (Launcher Pro, ADW etc). If you remove all the motoblur widgets off your homescreens and then install an alternate launcher, you will not have to use motoblur and will not have to go through the hassle of installing a new ROM - which on 2.2 is a bit of a pain (tried it myself and not been able to get it working thanks to the locked bootloader - probably my fail though).

just installing a launcher also has the advantage of allowing you to get the official GB update when it is released, without having to flash back.
