Help Unable to do usb connection with PC

I used USB tethering google nexus 7 (2013) with a PC and it just worked fine, but now neither the PC nor the tablet is responding after the USB cable is plugged to both showing 'usb not connected on the tablet and no form of signal on the PC'. what could be the problem and solution.

Could be down to (a) the cable or (b) the USB port. Try a known-good cable in another port, preferably one on the back plane directly connected to the PC mainboard.
