Help Unable to "Erase everything"

Initially I kept getting "Play Store unavailable presently please try later" (or something very similar). I deleted and reinstalled my Google account, but this didn't make any difference. When I tried to wipe everything (Reset) I got as far as bringing up the <Erase everything> and on touching this the backgound around this message goes light grey and nothing happens. Is there any way I can force this option? ver 4.4.4

You could do a factory reset.

Settings --> Backup & Reset --> Factory Data Reset

That would wipe everything beyond the base operating system, basically giving you a brand new phone.

This is the problem - when I attempt a factory reset nothing happens (apart from the background border around the prompt changing to a lighter shade while I touch it).

You could always try a factory reset through the stock recovery....
Oower off the phone completely.
Press and hold Volume Down, Volume UP and Power buttons all at the same time.

When I attempt this (last reply), I get a little android belly up with a tiny red triangle with a black exclamation mark - this eventually times out and I get to see the desktop with "Unfortunately, Google Play Store has stopped" super imposed on it.

The belly up android is the sign that you're in the stock recovery. You have to press volume up + power to bring up the menu. It might take more than one attempt because it can be quite finicky.

Thanks! have glimpsed the (looks like 4 line option menu) but so far have been unable to 'catch it' I can see what you mean by finicky :-) I feel we're getting somewhere now...

Thanks! Sure was 'finicky' but managed to catch it eventually - timing seems super critical. Wish I'd dropped in here 48 hrs ago...

Have you tried to DL the factory images and loading g the. Through fastboot? You don't even require recovery then... Just the vol down and pwr at boot and work from there
