Help Unable to hear outgoing or incoming phone calls?

Mikebo

Lurker
Recently purchased Moto G (2nd Gen) with Lollipop. All worked fine until a couple of days ago. I can no longer hear outgoing or incoming calls, although I know that the connection is being made - I hear nothing. The volume is set to full. Anyone any ideas what the problem might be?

Welcome to Android Forums.

The "In-Call" volume may be set very low with others (like media, notification, ringer) not set that way.

Does it play any sounds at all. Does it work with a headset?
Might help narrow down where the problem lies?
Plays sounds through speakers and when connected to earphones. I use it with BBC Iplayer and the built in FM Radio.

Can't see anything in Call Settings referring to "In-call" volume. And also it was working fine a few days ago, when I last made a call.

I just saw the same problem reported on a different model phone in another forum ..

The solution was to replace the SIM card that went bad.

Perhaps that is the solution here?

After lengthy chat with Motorola, I have been advised to try to "clear cache partition" to remove any temporary files that may be causing the problem. If that fails go for an external factory reset.

Doing a Wipe Cache Partition can't hurt. I do it on my Turbo every Saturday (maintenance day).

The Factory Data Reset might be the answer. The SIM replacement might be the answer. It might be less evasive to try the SIM replacement first.

Started the 'clear cache partition' route, but after switching phone OFF then back ON, problem disappeared! Rule No 1 - try reboot first! Thanks to all for suggestions.

Always a good thing to try whenever you have a problem.

It is interesting that EVERYONE you talked to assumed that you had already done a reboot (power off/power on).
