Unable to hear sound in browsers

I can't hear certain sounds on websites.

I have tried the Chrome and Edge browsers, and get the same issue with each.

For example, on the Google Translate website when I click on the speaker icon, I can't hear the word being pronounced.

I have searched for sound settings in the browsers and in Android itself, but can't find anything that works.

I'll start with the obvious, is the volume turned up?

Maybe try clearing data and cache for the browser.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, the volume is turned up, and clearing the data and cache for Chrome does not work. For Edge, I had installed it for the first time and it didn't work from the off.

Because both browsers are failing to do it, I'm inclined to think it's not a browser setting but a setting in the operating system?
