Help Unable to install or start phone software update components

Im trying to update my phone using SE PC Companion but everytime I do I get the message of Unable to install or start phone software update components.

What am I doing wrong??
 
I had the same problem with PC Companion, always have problem, went to sony ericsson update service link, did the lot in 15 minutes. Bob
 
Indeed, Im not to sure what it is that causes this as yet as it is very intermittant with only a small number of users having the problem, however the Update Service seems to the job. :)

I am having the same problem updating to the latest software by PC Companion, but i cant seem to find the Update Service.
When i Google it, i get a page telling me the software is not available for xperia x10.
does anyone have a link for the service please?

Apparently, not available online anymore.

If you are looking to see if 2.3 is available for your phone, you can check here -

Otherwise, if PC Companion doesn't work (if you removed the old version and installed the newest one available on the website) then you might have to flash to phone in order to update it.....using some sort of flashtool.

i got a message on my phone telling me new software is available and when i connect with PC Companion it tells me that the software is available.

However it gets halfway throught the downloading phase and i get the 'Unable to install or start phone software update components' error.

I will try rooting it now, but i am abit sceptical about doing this as i have never done it before and dont want to break my phone. Im not the sharpest knife in the drawer ;)

i dont feel confident flashing the phone so i think i will just stick with the old software until the pc companion works.
i am rather peeved though as i wanted the dual touch and just a general new feel to my phone.
I am too new to all this flashing and whatnot to give it a go.

Multitouch was available on 2.1 in January.

If it is trying to download but keeps failing it is most likely that there are too many others trying to update too.

It did that to me for a couple days when 2.1 was first released.

I ended up giving up and just flashing the phone myself.

To be honest there is little to worry about when flashing your phone. So long as you follow all of the steps provided and don
 
i have a xperia x10i unbranded and i have notification that i have a new softwere but i can't download it starts and go to 80% and stop with mesage that the sony ericsson server is overloaded and try later,i am traying every day about a week and there is no changes,can sameone know what should i do,except that a should wait :)

Root and do it manually.

Or wait.

Try at strange times. Times when the North American Sony Ericsson server might less busy.

If you are trying to do this over the air, I would advise having a go at updating via PC Companion as you may have more luck with that.
